Painfully writing from my cell block
block in my mind and heart
heart full of memories, good and bad
bad feelings invading my being
being lonely, criticized, left out
out of my body
body full of aches and pains
pains torturing my soul and spirit
spirit wandering darkened paths
paths criss-crossing over rocky grounds
grounds and mountain trails
trails dangerous and steep
steep precipices where I've almost fallen
fallen as I write from my cell block
Author Notes | I have gone long periods without writing, blocked by emotions or sometimes I just keep putting it off. I chose this poem to start my book because the poetry is flowing out I feel I'm breaking out of a cell block |

She is my midnight owl
A friend in fair weather or foul
We sometimes get mad
Our problems can be so bad
Our natures are the same
When we call each other a nasty name
Neither of us wants to take the blame
Yet she has a good heart
Even though at times we're ready to part
Many times our friendship seems to fail
At other times, we dovetail
We have walked on rocky ground
But I'm glad she's always around
Author Notes | Alicia and I have the kind of relationship described in this poem She has a lot of physical problems-dialysis, knee replacement, difficulty breathing and sleeping |

icy mountaintops pictured against sky
of pinkish-purple backdrop

Isolated, excluded
For years I sat in my room
No friends, no family support
Walls close in around me
No one understands; nobody cares
Living in a separate world
Trapped inside my broken mind
Being alone, unable to relate
Lonely years in a barren desert
Hovering between two worlds-
Handicapped versus non-handicapped
Empty life, broken dreams
Solitary confinement
Trapped in a prison cell
People who meant a lot are gone

I'm glad I'm alive
In the year "twenty-five"
Creating poetry, looking forward to Spring
Future months will bring
Happiness and sadness
Grief, joy, and gladness
Author Notes | I thought it was appropriate to write about the year 2025 for a 25-word poem |

Overwhelming waves of pain
Crashing through my nightmares
Washing away hopes and dreams
Mountainous breakers tearing at my heart
Emotional trauma driving me insane
Overwhelming waves of pain
Vicious winds assaulting my spirit
Howling overhead
Crashing through my nightmares
Midnight tsunami
A terrible tragedy
Washing away hopes and dreams

Prayerful
Hands folded in union
Pleas and petitions soaring upward
Fast from meat
Giving up bad habits
Forming clean, pure ways for a new life
Adoring
Divine Presence of God
Holy Body and Blood revealing

From outside I heard these sounds:
Snarling, growling, howling hounds
As I passed by the fence,
My body began to tense
Beware, take care!
Avoid the Boxers' and Pitbulls' lair!
Cross the street
Quickly move your feet
Warning-Danger Within!
All this frightening racket and din
Skedaddle to the other side
You can never give them a berth too wide

Last Snow
Final farewell
Green patches appearing
Cold, sharp, pinprick rains pouring down
Last breath
Author Notes | We've had what I hope will be our last snowfall Welcome Spring! Thanks to supergold from Fan Art Review |

Yesterday's rain left
A chilly, damp morning
Wet, deep puddles
Streams dripping from the awning
Today's rain left
Flowers beaded with droplets
Softly pattering
As a pale-rayed sun sets
Tomorrow's rain wll leave
A rainbow's pot of gold
Value untold
Future fortunes to unfold
Author Notes | We're having an extremely rainy spring I wanted my poem to show how rain can be dismal, like life, yet burst out into a rainbow full of beauty and hope the way life can turn out thanks to PublicDomainPictures from Pixabay |

Adopted mother, in the order of grace
I worship Her blessed face
As she gazes on me from Her Heavenly place
She has teal-blue eyes
Like azure skies
Her skin is white as milk
Her dress is soft, shimmering silk
Her cheeks are the color of a rose
Her face exudes a gentle repose
She is the lily of purity
Waiting to welcome me into eternity
Author Notes | A tribute to my Blessed Mother |

Storms
Severe dangerous winds
Sailboats tug at anchor
Stillness, then thunder crash
Snowstorm with deep high drifts
Sleet mixed with rain pelting
Streets covered by black ice
