Chapter 1
Harmony In My Garden

By michaelcahill

When I need advice,
or I need to smile,
I come out to this place;
and I stay awhile--
the ground is soft,
and there's so many things to see.

You can keep an eye
on the world out there,
for the seeds of life
are growing everywhere,
and after all
isn't this what it's all about?

There's harmony in my garden,
and melody in the breeze,
and friendship is growing there,
(growing there)
and the moon and the stars
are to share.

Author Notes

My ex-wife and myself. My song and lyric, for a Veggie Tales type play. Laziness PAYS ... for others. LOL

Chapter 2
Follow the Road

By michaelcahill

Follow the Road

First Verse

Look for a sign
and follow the road,
using your dream as a guide.
Away, away, away somewhere--
follow, follow the road.

Second Verse

Look for a sign,
look into the eyes,
using your heart as a guide.
Away, away, away somewhere--
follow, follow the road.

--CHORUS--
Hold on to your daydreams,
hold on, hold on.
Time can only pass.
-repeat-

Third Verse

Look for a ship
adrift on the sea;
then, use the wind as a guide.
Away, away, away somewhere--
follow, follow the road.

--CHORUS--

repeat first verse

Follow, follow the road,
follow, follow the road...

fade....

Author Notes

My ex and me. Another children's song.

Chapter 3
One In A Million

By michaelcahill

It's a million people marching
a million hands to hold
and their strong in their conviction
secure within the fold

and I see your shining face
a little girl all alone
and I can't wait for you to grow
to show
what you know
what only you know

For one in a million
will march alone
Oh, one in a million
will march alone

It's a million people marching
and I look o'er the crowd
and I look for Martin Luther
and Bobby walking proud

and I wonder who among you
will step out of the crowd
and show us what you know
what only you know

Oh, one in a million will march alone
One in a million will march alone

Oh, oh, one
in a million
will march alone.

Author Notes
This is the short version. It leaves room for a verse or two addressing whatever is current. Just me, guitar and a very cheap cassette player. Big budget all the way.

Yes, Bobby Kennedy does it for me. Think of whomever does it for you.

Chapter 4
Boneyard

By michaelcahill

Boneyard

Walkin' in the boneyard
wonderin' where my place is
seekin' a wink or a smile
from the faceless gathering
gotta say they all look the same now
but I think I remember someone

walkin in an ice forest
wonderin' where my place is
seekin' a match to warm me
faces suspended in irregular time
I know them all

walk into the local liquor hole
wonderin' where my place is
seekin' a black Russian or two
I see your eyes in every ice cube
I remember you

I remember you
layin' in the boneyard, alone

Author Notes

This is the only kind of recording I have, so sorry about the sound quality etc.
Cassette, me singing with me, guitar with guitar and some sound effects that I forget how I came up with. Remember, this was requested. Hahaha!!

Chapter 5
You Are My Moonlight

By michaelcahill

You are my moonlight, my lovely moonlight
you make me tremble in every way
just hold me close dear and silence my fear
there's no rush to meet the light of day

those many evenings when I was dreaming
of someone like you within my arms
could almost feel you right there beside me
oh so sad when I knew I'd not your charms

but then one sweet night an angel kissed me
a dark haired lady past every dream
and then awakened that wondrous morning
all I'd wished for was just what it seemed

now every mornin' I wake and hold her
a few more kisses with curtain drawn
I hope she'll never want to leave me
and I hope the moon keeps shinin' on

You are my moonlight, my lovely moonlight
you make me tremble in every way
just hold me close dear and silence my fear
there's no rush to meet the light of day

there's no rush to meet the light of day

Author Notes

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamt I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head, and I cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all one day

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

Please don't take my sunshine away

Chapter 6
Downtown Eyes

By michaelcahill

Author Note:LYRICS AND MUSIC PERFORMED BY MIKEY

The neon keeps flashing
in those downtown eyes
oh yeah baby's hot tonight

and the click click rhythm
echos on down
the alley's hard tongue roadway
and the fragrance of the moment
replaces air with atmosphere

oh it's a hot baby kind of night

now that cats on the prowl
followin' the click click
seeking the fragrance
doin' that hunter walk

oh yeah the tail is twitchin' tonight
leading the way

closing in now
he on his knees
she on all fours
hunter and prey
prey and hunter

and it's hot and heavy
down the alley way
till the siren blares.....

slithering away
tail between his legs
but the neon won't stop flashing
in those downtown eyes

downtown,
downtown eyes

Author Notes

The usual poorly recorded me and guitar and some whistling. :))

Chapter 7
Dreams Of Satin

By michaelcahill

Dreams of satin
where fabric embraces
but, doesn't cover
discovering you
not by texture
but, by your warmth
warm is you, it is
your definition
your eyes
your smile
your voice
dreams of satin
like sleeping on a raft
on a lake
rocked by the gentle tremble
of the water's pulse
drawing its purpose
from your heart
its depth
from your soul
dreams of satin
you

Chapter 8
Embers Of Lenore

By michaelcahill

coals
having served their purpose
                        are left to burn
the thrill of a matchstrike
the bold flames foreshadow
a total committment
                       to ashes

now forgotten
is it kindness
to pour a pail of cold water
over the embers slowly burning alone
ending the lonely vigil
when burning out was all that was left

i stand alone at the waters edge
but i don't enter
for some reason i smile
as i trace your name
in the sand

embers of Lenore

Author Notes To avoid any controversy all woman in my past are named Lenore. This is a song as well.

Chapter 10
Lenore (Two Becoming One)

By michaelcahill

Author Note:LYRICS AND MUSIC PERFORMED BY MIKEY

Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of violence.
Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of sexual content.

Oh, oh Lenore
Surrounded by tubercular blood drops
expectorated from your sweet lips
a swirling pattern surrounds my silhouette
as the pale moon follows behind me

I slap your face
        open handed and open mouthed
        for your self-centered display
        must I further implore you
                to my attention?

Or, will you wallow
in your piteous self-indulgence
while I remain unsatiated and unsutured?
What of your promised sensuality
drowning in the wheezing of your love speak?

your claws pierce my thighs
as you tickle my unwilling femurs
your jaw clamps down tightly on my abdomen
                                    seeking the sweet spot

It's just two becoming one
               two becoming one

your backswept incisors in an
intimate intestinal embrace
        you taste the swirling parfait
        of a half remembered desert

somehow you kick the ceiling off our love nest
and the crowd roars its approval
dancing on an imaginary balcony
        waving their ladles triumphantly
        and each in turn
        tastes of the gelatinous remains

of two becoming

              one

Oh, I love you
my sweet Lenore

Author Notes Poor recording, but I need a record of how it goes more or less.

Chapter 11
Smoke At the Wind's Mercy

By michaelcahill

Author Note:LYRICS AND MUSIC BY MIKEY

smoke at the wind's mercy
no direction of its own
I can dig it like that girl
so lite it up
give us a puff

down by the tracks
that used to carry trains
rust has a life of its own
so I gotta keep polishin'
or infinity will disappear
and all the wind
will slip over the horizon

we wouldn't want to sit around
in a cloud of smoke
can't see too well like that
not enough oxygen
in smokey air

so tired
so asleep
so comatose

but now I'm hearing that rumble
and feelin' that vibration
and that whistles blowin'
that smoke away

who's to say what a train thinks
I never talked to one
but, I love its entrance
makes me want to ride it away
like smoke at the wind's mercy

Author Notes Poor recording, but it's all mine. :))

Chapter 12
The Life We Lived

By michaelcahill

I remember the life we lived

From the moment we met

until the end

That first moment like Sgt. Pepper

Or Jimi's guitar

When I saw you and knew to my surprise

That you were a part of the world

I thought I knew the world well enough

To hate it

But, I couldn't really hate a world

That you were a part of

You.....

Remember?

I could barely look at you

Like a deer in the headlights frozen

Waiting to be hit

Wanting to be hit

Hell, begging to get knocked

Through the center of the earth

To who knows where

Splattered across a universe

I don't even know which one

Remember?

From somewhere I found the nerve to speak

[I do remember being smooth at one time]

So, I said God knows what

And you actually spoke to me

Like some song that never leaves you

So tuneful

So haunting

And thus began the life we lived

And your heart kept mine beating a little longer

And your spirit haunted me as a spirit should

And your soul with but a casual brush

Gave me warmth

Remember?

And now you carry on

Without me, of course

For how could you know

The life we lived

I lived alone.

Author Notes actually put this to music at someone's suggestion. wanted to write this in todays language. an ode doesn't have to be ode fashioned does it? to the girl that never knew.

Chapter 13
The Sparrow's Song

By michaelcahill

Inside my mind it’s snowing
Outside the wind is blowing
And I wish that I was knowing
Why those clouds are going
Without me….oh

Inside my lonely barrel
It’s resting place so narrow
Waiting for a breeze
Borrowed from the trees
To blow me in….oh

The branch that holds the sparrow
Shivering to the marrow
Just like me…oh

The rapids down below
I don’t know where they go
But, I know it’s somewhere
Away from here
Where I fear I’ll have to stay
Without windows
Peering through a crack in my eyelid
Wondering what I did
To make the sparrow stay

Chapter 14
The Sun Will Never Know

By michaelcahill

Sky around the time we share
through the clouds a silent stare
stay with me
and the sun will never know

rain to hide the love we feel
thunder shields the kiss we steal
stay with me
and the sun will never know

the clouds won't see what our minds perceive
the stars won't show what our hearts believe
we'll ride on dreams in a night time spell
the silent moon will never tell
and the sun will never know

fly above the sleeping sea
a moment past infinity
stay with me and the sun will never know

Author Notes A love song from back in the day. Not meant to rhyme exactly but to fit a melody and chord structure.

Chapter 15
Through The Years

By michaelcahill

Author Note:LYRICS AND MUSIC PERFORMED BY MIKEY

through the years
a crystal eagle soars
above the tears
a single heartbeat
showing us the way
through the years

and like travelers in the night
the people passing by
are passing by unknowing
swallowed by the mystery of our world
where truth is kept within

for only you
for only me
through the years

oh, it is one path
one journey
one love

through the years

Author Notes
Yikes! It's your ears. :))

Chapter 16
When The Blood Runs Cold

By michaelcahill

an Israeli soldier
marching through Palestine
in the footsteps of Jesus
salvation on his mind

from the Jordan river
we hear the cannons roar
we look for John the Baptist
within some ancient lore

they have discovered God
no one worships the same
no one can agree
on his name

when the blood runs cold
it soothes the burn.

Author Notes no offense to any religion intended. with offense to war.

Chapter 17
With No One

By michaelcahill

Author Note:LYRICS AND MUSIC PERFORMED BY MIKEY

You don't have what you've taken
so you hold it close at hand
when the rain doesn't stop
its quicksand

and your heart is mistakin'
and the guilt leaves a glowin'
you mistake for warmth
unknowin'

                and I make your mornin' coffee
                I'm your evenin' post to lean on
                and you think you hold me captive
                but, this soul journeyed long ago
                            and left you, with no one

what have you taken from me?
when I live in stolen moments
that I cradle in the graveyard
of what you call our love

you feel the fire that's burnin'
baby, that's just a secret kiss I found
and a lifetime with you won't erase it
and a lifetime with you won't replace it

I love someone somewhere
you love your morning coffee
that you drink
with no one

Author Notes Poor quality, so listen at the risk of your ears. :))

Chapter 18
Ask Me In the Dark

By michaelcahill

Author Note:MUSIC AND LYRICS BY MIKEY :))

Don't believe your eyes
just close them
listen to my song
don't believe what you see
just feel me in the dark

colors are flat reflections
truth hides in shadows
in the dark it's the fear
that fuels desire
it's the sun that burns my soul

fire doesn't mix with fire
the beauty of a campfire
is the dark in which it glows

I don't know where
this journey started
I don't know where it ends
I can only say
that it's always me
as I've always been

Ask me in the dark
and I'll show you who I am

the beauty of a campfire
is the dark in which it glows
don't believe your eyes
just listen to my song

just feel me in the dark
and I'll show you who I am

Author Notes
The usual crude recording, best I've got at the moment.

Chapter 19
Beautiful Whore

By michaelcahill

Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of language.
Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of sexual content.

Beautiful whore
How can I ignore
the salty sweat
dripping from your breasts

Beautiful whore
your parted lips implore
my entry
your eyes say only yes
to my swollen tongue's desire

Beautiful whore

Somehow I'm right in the middle of this
and I've come to the end
here I am smaller than
have I killed my only friend
now I've seen the floor
tell me when
I don't need you anymore

I don't know what
I ever wanted you for
Oh, beautiful whore

Author Notes No, it doesn't need warnings, but it doesn't hurt.

Poor quality recording just to get it on tape. Me, guitar, one take on a cheap cassette. Oh well. :))

Chapter 20
Hideaway

By michaelcahill

Author Note:LYRICS AND MUSIC PERFORMED BY MIKEY

Hideaway
where I'm shiverin' in a corner
afraid to light a fire
that shows me
what a lifetime runnin'
can do to a soul

a broken down shack
that wasn't much to start with
a room without mirrors to taunt me
a room without mirrors to tempt me

And I ride a black stallion
through the night
and her eyes
are the only light I remember
maybe she still sees me
in the corner of her mind

Hideaway

Author Notes
It is what it is. :))

Chapter 21
Would You Steal

By michaelcahill

Author Note:LYRICS AND MUSIC PERFORMED BY MIKEY

Are you warm tonight
I'd really like to know
If your kids were starving
would you steal

In starving desperation
Mr. Martin rode his fear
and seeing no one there
he tucked a loaf of bargain brand
fast inside his coat
a flash of light, a thundering
he fell like some comedian
practicing a joke

In yonder distant palace
the King was holding court
the jester spoke of equity
secure inside the fort

the King was filled with laughter
as vaudevillian play
filled the sitting parlor
while night escaped from day

"My kingdom is a garden"
the King did proudly shout,
"and soon the buds will blossum
I'm positive, no doubt".

Can you see beyond
the kingdom you have built
can you hear beyond
the echo of your voice
What makes you think
the air is just for you.

Are you warm tonight
I'd really like to know
are you sleepin' tight
I'd really like to know
If your kids were starving
would you steal

Dinner would be late tonight
in the Martin home
but there'd be one less mouth to feed
and one less thief to roam

Author Notes
Terrible recording, but I need to keep it for reference if I ever get a chance to make a real recording. :))

Chapter 22
You're the One

By michaelcahill

You're the One

VERSE
So here you are again
you're standing at my door
I thought about what I might say
maybe, "nevermore"

BRIDGE
so, I try to speak
but this is all I say:

CHORUS
you're the only one I love (you're the one)
the only one I've ever loved (the one I love)

VERSE
You're really asking me a lot
to believe I'm what you want
I hardly ever see you
when I do ...
you say nothing

BRIDGE
But if it's up to me to speak (if it's up to me)
I'll say what's on my mind

CHORUS
You're the only one I love (you're the one)
the only one I've ever loved (the one I love)

VERSE
I remember when I thought
your kisses would never end
I don't really understand why
you don't love me anymore

BRIDGE
I just wish that once
you would say to me

VAMP
You're the one
the one I love
You're the one
the one I love

-fade-

Author Notes

This was going to be for the song lyric contest, but these lyrics are pretty thin without the music. YES ... they're thin with the music too. HAAAAHAHAHA! Whatever, that's me, my ex-wife and her lovely sister. One of many mistakes I've made in my life. It gives me things to write about. :))

Sorry about the quality, it's all there is.

Chapter 24
Lovers Tonight

By michaelcahill

It must be the way you smile
makes me want to stay awhile
I know I shouldn't stay
I don't know what words to say

But if my heart could speak to you
if I could do what I wanted to do
I would leave the world behind
follow my heart, not my mind

But we can be lovers tonight
we can be lovers tonight

Morning comes the stars are gone
and you've left with them too
I know the stars will come again
but you won't be with them

So one last kiss must hold me
remembering all that it told me
I'll be watching the stars for a while
always remembering your smile
and that we were lovers tonight

we were lovers tonight

Chapter 25
The Breeze of the Silver Wind

By michaelcahill

VERSE
I haven't got the money
to spend upon my dreams
I'll dream a little deeper
and find out what it means

CHORUS
Ridin' on the chill of the breeze
of the silver wind
warmed by the stars in the sky
above my head

VERSE
I haven't got the time
to waste upon a living
there's more to do than digging holes
there's loving and there's living

CHORUS
Riding on the chill of the breeze
of the silver wind
warmed by the stars in the sky
above my head

 BRIDGE
All the dragons playing
in flight above the land
are happy with their fairy tales
how can anybody say that they aren't real
when anyone can tell me what they look like
anyone can tell me what they live like
dream a little deeper
don't let them fly alone

VERSE
Call me foolish if you wish
but I cannot hear you
I'm busy making up my life
there's much that I must do

CHORUS
Ridin' on the chill of the breeze
of the silver wind
warmed by the stars in the sky
above my head.

Author Notes

It's a drag I can't add the music here, that demonstrates how the lyrics fit into the melody etc. But, here it is anyway. For children. :))

Well, the contest is over, so here is the music. LOL

Chapter 26
The Preacher

By michaelcahill

In this world of plastic people
lives a preacher beneath a steeple.
People pay him very well
to save their souls from holy hell.

On Sunday morning,
the people who come to hear,
sleep through the sermon
he gave last year.

A hail of brimstone from his tongue,
he's very rich, and very young.
He'll teach you how to die and live,
and how to thank him when you give.

On Sunday morning,
the sinners come running in,
and, like magic,
he makes them walk again.

Deep inside the record's groove,
he hears the voice of Satan move.
So, send them all your rock n roll--
they'll cash it in, and save your soul.

Author Notes

Okay, be kind. This is from when I was fourteen, the second poem I actually wrote down. The music is me and my precious ex-wife, me harmony and guitar, her lead vocals, drums and other things. This is OLD. LOL

I apologize if you're a fan or follower of John Hagee. I, on the other hand, am not. I am strongly against a man or woman of the cloth advising their congregation how to vote and taking strong opinions on political matters. I don't think the church belongs in that arena. His opinion that Obama is from Satan and Trump is from God is dangerous at best.

I was a bit radical when I was a teenager. Of course I've calmed down now. HAAAAHAHAHA!!!!

Chapter 27
A Christmas Song

By michaelcahill

Once again winter's snow is bold,
Those ancient stories will unfold
Tall Christmas tree, quick splash of light
bright ribbons dancing in crisp night

The chimney swept clean waiting for
swift visit silent stuff of lore
Eyes are closed pretending sleep
listening for loose floorboards creak

An entrance graceful without noise
wrapped packages of heartfelt joys
The sun shines bright through every bough
innocent souls rejoicing now

My old green jacket full of wear
Empty pockets good mem'ries there
No thoughts of what I can't provide
Pure love of Jesus dwells inside

All through the house bright sounds of cheer
while every heart is near and dear
Christmas! Christmas! Our day is here
no one is poor for Christ is near

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 28
Alone with Remembering
By michaelcahill
Alone with Remembering
VERSE
Well, I hear good bye in your hello
it's a sigh that's an echo burning slow
we know that we both know
to save what we have I must go
CHORUS
leave me alone
so, I can get on with remembering
repeat
VERSE
your laugh has become a smile
a lifetime is now just a little while
our memories are dreams to file
in sleep as walk one last mile
BRIDGE
there's no reason to be sad
if we don't destroy what we had
I just want to remember when
what we had now and then
if we can't laugh out loud
let's take some time to spend on a cloud
CHORUS
vamp out on the chorus etc.....
Author Notes
Sorry about the quality of this. A jam really. Just a crude record of how it goes more or less. :))
Chapter 29
Cell By Cell
By michaelcahill
Cell By Cell
Somewhere deep inside
where I cannot hide
cell by cell
cell by cell
cell by cell
like a river makes a mountain
because it is a river
and the mountain unaware
reaches for an answer as it grows
but, I recognize
cell by cell, cell by cell
Like the ocean keeps on
sifting through the sound
searching for the mountain
and the ocean unaware
searches for the mountain in the sand
but, I know the waves
cell by cell, cell by cell
somewhere deep inside
where I cannot hide
cell, oh by cell
Author Notes
Sorry about the quality. A quick throw it on tape type thing. LOL
Chapter 30
A Juggler's Song
By michaelcahill
A Juggler's Song
I never was expecting you to speak
or a juggler's song that lasts to long
and you expected a cloud's song
behind my smile, where I hide
but you're not here
there's only me
I'm falling through a hole
that only I can see
fallin' through a hole
that only I can see
another song
that lasts too long
a juggler's song
another song, another song
a juggler's song
I close my eyes
and listen as the time passes by
I write a song
that you won't hear
another song, a silent song
that lasts too long
another song, a juggler's song
that lasts too long
I try to spend the night alone
but I have no choice
I hear your voice
but you're not here
there's only me
I'm fallin' through a hole
that only I can see
(vamp out....)
a juggler's song, til night has gone....
Author Notes Yeah, noisy and old ... just like me. LOL
Chapter 31
True
By michaelcahill
True
True that I look in your eyes
but I can't stop myself
like a baby needs a bottle
True that I taste your lips
when my mind is searchin'
for my heart's desire
I'd close my eyes if I could
but I'd still see you
oh, I would see you
True I'd stop thinking of you
if I could stop thinking
if I could stop thinking
What can I do when it's true?
Sure I feel like a fool
like I know you'd tell me
But what can I do when it's true
when it's true
I wish I could write some deep metaphor
a poets knife slicing my heart in two
all I can say is, it's true
it's true, it's true
vamps out with verse and chorus....
Author Notes
These old songs are recorded on cassette tapes and I have no other way of saving them. LOL So, sorry about the quality etc. This is actually one track of a four-track recording ... oh well. My stab at an N Sync type song. I swear I'm a rock n roll boy though you wouldn't know it from any of these. :))
Chapter 32
2 Please U
By michaelcahill
Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of violence.
Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of language.
2 Please U
I take a razor blade and I bring on red
I search for meaning in what you said
Ya know ya kiss me babe
just like you kiss your brother
and I was hopin' that you'd
want me like your mother
And now your talk about
our mutual castration
I've got this razor blade
to start my menstruation
To please you, I do
to tease you, I do
bleed freely, like a woman
but sadly, not as smooth
my wounds are jagged and coarse
but at least they're self-inflicted
to tease you, I do
to please you, I do
to tease you, I do
to seize you, I do
to appease you, I do
bleed freely, like a woman
vamp out....
Author Notes
Another crude, noisy, one take wonder. Warnings for language and violence just in case. LOL I just need to store this somewhere. :))
Chapter 33
I Saw the Look in Your Eyes
By michaelcahill
I Saw the Look in Your Eyes
VERSE
You don't say what you want me to know
it's a fear of the fire that might grow
and I'm just as scared, girl, as you
of the burn from the firestorm we brew
VERSE
I don't want to take over your space
But I can't stop painting your face
But a painting just won't take the place
gotta use my fingers to trace
gotta use my fingers to trace
CHORUS
and ya know what I'm feelin' inside
you know that I won't be denied
believe me I'm not hypnotized
I saw the look in your eyes
I saw the look in your eyes
BREAK
I saw the look in your eyes
VERSE
You run through me like a ghost in the wind
and I feel you where no one's ever been
and all I can say is, "Hello"
'cause I can't find the words to explain
the look in your eyes you can't hide
the look in your eyes you can't hide
VAMP out, repeat first verse
END
come a little bit closer, baby
come a little bit closer, baby
Chapter 34
You've Got What I Need
By michaelcahill
Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of sexual content.
You've Got What I Want
I'm lookin' right at ya baby
I'm not playin' any games
I got no clever lines
we're not exchangin' names
I'm gonna take you right now
and we're not gonna pretend
that you ain't lookin' my way
we're gonna help each other mend
we're gonna help each other mend
'cause you got what I want
and I got what you need
'cause you got what I want
and I got what you need
well, we could get a room
but you know it won't get that far
we'll remember those good old days
in the back seat of my car
in the back seat of my car
'cause you've got what I want
and I've got what you need
vamp out...
Author Notes
One track from a four track recording. LOL Oh well....
Chapter 35
A Loss For Words
By michaelcahill
A Loss For Words
If I were to say those words
that sound so common
would you understand
that I'm not trying to emulate
anything you've heard of
in the past
they're just words
and I hope you understand
that it is me
at a loss for words
I just can't find them
maybe I should just play
(this has several musical interludes in it.
it makes a little more sense with the music.)
I'm alone in a cavern
growing darker by the second
and the dark that was my friend
now steals my light
and I don't know if it's day
or if it's night
I can't find you
Oh! If I say, "I love you".
Would you turn and walk away
cause I cannot find
anything else to say to you
would you run away
'cause you've heard it said before
or, would you listen to me play
Oh, I love you
God, it sounds so common
and I sound just like any other guy
but I don't want you to sound
like any other girl
I don't want you to sound
so very ordinary
it's just words, a loss for words
I never could find them
but I beg you, baby
don't go away
just hear me play
Author Notes
This is mostly made up on the spot. I had this music I was playing around with and a theme in mind and just kind of jammed with it. The idea is, I can't really find a way to SAY it, so I'm trying to find a way to PLAY it. That's why it's kind of long and unpolished. I never got to finish it and record it properly, like everything else. LOL
Chapter 36
Is It Over
By michaelcahill
Is It Over
Is it over
have we given up fighting
is it over
have our dreams turned to night
and our hopes gone to sleep
our minds counting sheep
is it over
is it over
did we set the world straight
is it over
did we finally succeed
am I remembering wrong
am I remembering wrong
is it over
can we pick up the pieces
is it over
I can think of no reason
to settle for this
I can't settle for this
is it over
is it over
when we were younger
we naively thought
that just by fighting
better dreams could be bought
the years passed us by
our spirits were bent
we closed our hearts
and kept our thoughts in our head
is it over
Is it over
have we given up fighting
is it over
have our dreams turned to night
and our hopes gone to sleep
our minds counting sheep
is it over
is it over
Author Notes
Never got around to deciding if this was going to be a love song or a song about growing up and feeling we wasted our time protesting etc. since it didn't seem to make a difference. Anyway, this is what happens to be recorded. :))
Chapter 37
Hold Me Near
By michaelcahill
Hold Me Near
VERSE 1
I feel the time passing by
younger days have slipped away
I don't know why
I'm so lonely
CHORUS
and the smile you sent my way
soon moves in to yesterday
the plans it seems fade into dreams
and all the hope a ring of smoke
hold me near and shield me from the night
hold me near and shield me from the night
VERSE 2
I see the days' drift away
I didn't see them coming
I watched them go
I feel helpless
CHORUS 2
out of touch I carry on
a broken heart, the same old song
the wind still blows, the river flows
and life goes on, the same old con
hold me near and shield me from the night
hold me near and shield me from the night
Instrumental Break
CHORUS OUT
out of touch I carry on
a broken heart, the same old song
the wind still blows, the river flows
and life goes on, the same old con
hold me near and shield me from the night
hold me near and shield me from the night
hold me near and shield me from the night
fade out...
Chapter 38
Soldiers In A Row
By michaelcahill
soldiers in a row
marching like they know
arms are out of thunder
legs are blown asunder
                     going home
from gettysberg to kosovo
it's the trojans and the nazis
fighting for what they know to be true
and they know it for you
                     a christian and a jew
                     a muslim and a hindu
                     a pile of dead superiority
they were compelled by god
to prove the truth of their faith
in a human way
it's the human way
in a dimly lit bar
the bullets flying far
and the cannons roar
a kamikaze drinks his namesake
and from out of the fog
he sees a ship
and dives ever down into his next drink
                                         his next drink
soldiers in a row
marching like they know
taking the pieces that are left
and some that they found
going home
Chapter 39
To Seize You
By michaelcahill
Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of violence.
I take a razor blade and bring on red
I search for meaning in what you said
you know ya kiss me baby
like you kiss your mother
and I was hoping that
you'd want me like your brother
and now you talk about our mutual castration
I got this razor blade to start my menstruation
to please you, I do
to tease you, I do
bleed freely like a woman
but, sadly, not as smooth
my wounds are jagged and course
but at least they're self inflicted
to please you, I do
to tease you, I do
to seize you, I do
appease you, I do
bleed freely like a woman
but sadly not as smooth
to seize you
to tease you
to please you
I do.
Author Notes Just a quick "get it on tape" thing, poor quality etc.
Chapter 40
How Can I Sing It?
By michaelcahill
How can I sing it?
How do I show you how I feel?
Can I shoot it from the end of my fingertips
into your soul?
Oh, how I need to
     hold you
     and feel you.
     But, I love you
     sounds too damn familiar.
           Will you see beyond
           the words I speak,
           my melody
                impossible to sing?
And how do I break through the walls
I built myself?
I wish for a moment,
you could see inside,
beyond my smile,
behind my eyes,
where I hide trembling.
How can I sing it?
When my voice is so small.
My words are so ordinary,
how will you hear what I really feel?
I wish I could admit,
how I need you to hold me, like a baby
and protect me from the world.
Once in awhile I do.
Once in awhile
I do.
Author Notes
From long, long ago. Decades. I would hate to say how many! But, I can still hit the notes.
Soooooo, you want to hear me sing it, eh Barb. LOL Be careful what you wish for.....
Chapter 41
Fire Before Smoke
By michaelcahill
INTRO
Shiverin' to the bone
VERSE
Smoke before fire, smoke before fire
that's what they tell me, anyway
I'm spontaneous combustion
waiting for the signal to explode
Smoke before fire, smoke before fire
waiting for ignition
in a smoldering sleep
SPOKEN
It's after sundown
and the creatures are stirring
and they are pale
and you can see it
and they are frail
and you can feel it
and you are pure heat
or you wouldn't be here
wheezing in the dark
VERSE
smoke before fire
that's what they tell me anyway
well, touch me then
I want to burn
fire before smoke, fire before smoke
BRIDGE
smoke fills the air
but it hangs there nonetheless
trapped by geometric frost drawings
sure, the matchheads hot
to the fingertips
but a volcano's lips
you can't keep that eruption down
fire needs the ignition
of a fire starter
but the tundra never seems
 to be a cozy  home
when you're shiverin' to the bone
VERSE
I'm waiting
just in case a campfire
slips over the horizon
but I know deep down
that a campfire won't do
not with the memory
of a forest fire haunting me
I need the advice
of an arsonist
when I'm shiverin' to the bone
shiverin' to the bone
VAMP OUT and FADE
I don't require
I don't inquire
when I'm shiverin' to the bone
Fire before smoke
it's my own private joke
smoke before fire
smoke before fire
to the bone, to the bone
to the bone
Author Notes Yep ... these fit the music. LOL!
This is strictly a jam off the top of my head, so be kind. :))
