The Nancyan Sonnets
by Bruno Avanti (aka Dr. John O. Henry Bruening)
I
Sweet Nancy, thou whom I acclaim to be
The most divine achievement, may I dare
Thy beauty to all lesser things compare,
A task predestined to futulity?
Could myriads of fervent poetry
Thy loveliness with other lovers share?
Or snatch the splendors from the honey hair.
Or azure eyes, for all the word to see?
As long as dreamers swoon and are aware
Of passionately joyful ecstasy,
So thy dear name, embellished rev'rently,
In hushing whisper shall enrich my prayer.
Let Muses grant that I may give too thee
Their envied gift of immortality.
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 72.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Thursday, November 12, 2009.
