Clever--an original for sure--wry commentary on how all depends on one's perspective. Good luck. Cheers. LIZ (suggestion: just say transfer was complete before the day was out rather than repeat the date.)

Liz, while they are two separate dates over a twenty year period, I did change this.

Hello my friend

You did a great job with your entry for the Tale from the 3rd Millennium writing prompt contest. Your flash fiction about material possession transfer is very clever and the ending is funny. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

Well, it sure looks like the world, especially America, has gone downhill in just twenty years. The new norm is not desirable, people don't seem happier.

I love that you call it transformation. It sounds very much like communism. Transferring all our material stuff to those with the least.
And what is this you say, Taxes? Very innovative.
Shouldn't the date be 3000?

Hello mystery writer. A little sarcasm goes a long way when it's being applied to reality. My favorite part is where people who have no job and pay no taxes get tax refunds at the end of the year. That's really a good one.

Good luck in the contest.

Robert

Very thought-provoking piece. The introduction wasn't clear, though, and I had to re-read the piece to connect it to the body of the story. Overall, though, a great premise and strong writing.

Yup, you got it right: great riches comes with great responsibility, so switching places comes with this inheritance - taxes , any one?
"With wealth now transformed, however, the outcry was deafening from those who had gotten new material possessions.

"What taxes?""
Thank your for sharing and good luck with the contest.

Iza, thank you, the key word is personal responsibility, not matter where I find myself on the ladder of opportunity.

I think that this is a thought provoking piece that shows how people can get more than they bargained for. The grass seems greener much of the time only to realize what it costs to maintain that lawn. There are prices to pay for success. Whether that's a life long commitment to excellence a great work ethic or paying more taxes that are greater than what many others have even earned in their lives. Very profound story.

I really liked this one. It hit me squarely in the heart. I do feel for those underprivileged souls, but sometimes I don't think they realize that the middle class and one percenters work hard and then pay taxes. This is nicely done.

Roof35, I actually would not mind the taxes, if I felt that all the programs that are supposed to undergird the impoverished really had some meat in them, but I feel too much bureaucracy has put blinders on the waste and misuse of the finds.
