Good job, Jim. Excellent use of just 75 words. Is this in any way biographical? Retirement is wonderful, but the retiree will be looking for new things to occupy his hands and his mind in a very short time. experience speaking. Good luck in the contest. Great entry. Bob

Thank you and yes! this Anon writes has started doing many of the things that simply were put on the shelf and what a shame I waited so long...
Comment from Gloria ....
Well that sounds liberating indeed. Now you can write about the company with impunity. * chuckle*
Great short write and now really shred that stuff up.
Most enjoyable read this evening.

Thank you Gloria, and the past is so far in the rearview mirror, it truly is liberating.

This meets the contest requirement of a complete story on any topic nicely. No matter how many times I count it, I get 73 words and not 75. You might want to check it again. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

You did a great job, JLR, with your contest entry. I enjoyed reading it. You expressed your thoughts/feelings well. I like the way you wrote about retirement being the start of a new journey--so true. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

My sincerest thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my piece, it was fun to create this image...
Comment from Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
There is more to retirement than any of us thought. Suddenly our children see us as the children. We have to struggle against being made redundant in giving our invaluable advice to them, even though we have lived and survived a tougher life than they will have too. But, there is also the up side. We can ignore their advice as they do ours! lol. And there are the grandchildren, I need them to get me through the new IT world! Enjoy your retirement, JLR, I spend a lot of time writing and walking. Doing what I want to do. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

My sincere thank you, Yes to all of the above and more. The best years are those ahead...not behind, although they were special times.
Comment from Coco Jane
A good commentary on the ambivalence of retirement. It is indeed one of life's biggest transitions.
You might be able to save some words:
computer printer--omit computer
So, right now--omit So
with another journey begun. -- and began another
This would give you three more words to comment on your feelings.
"more grateful than sad"--exactly how I felt when I retired!

You have made good use of all seventy-five words in this piece about retirement, an event that may bring on a wide range of emotions. Yes,
it is both an ending and a beginning.

Thank you, have a most Joy-filled weekend!
Comment from Kelly Alblinger
I loved the visual of shredding the remaining business cards. That feels like a significant symbolic act. Separation anxiety notwithstanding, I appreciate that the retiree feels hopeful, not fearful. Makes me believe that this is not one of those folks who retires then dies 3 months later!

Thank you, it was a personal statement, no more heavy titles, no rattling of nerves, and yes I am 9 months into this new journey and love, love, love it!
Comment from Amale Rhodes
I won't be retiring for a long while, but in life hurdles come our way and we have to retire at some things along the way. Some may read this and narrowly-minded find it to be excluding some readers, not I. Thank you!

You are very wise in your younger years, I suggest that you will do very well until you arrive at a great retirement door.
