A very well-written heartfelt true story. We cannot predict our lives, we make plans and many times we are redirected when we receive bad news, but when all work out well we can just be grateful.

I am sorry to hear you had to go through this. It is a hard scary thing. My sister also went through it and is cancer free for 13yrs. I have a lot of cancer in my family. You would think I'd be very worried about it, but I don't think about it much at all. I do expect it to happen to me one day, but until then, I won't worry.
Hope you do well in the contest. Rox

I love, love your attitude! I believe if you can control stress you can live life simply as it is....

I am glad she is two-years cancer-free. Did you move to your retirement home? Or did all the medical treatment needed prevent this. I thank you for your honest sharing of your story and pray you continue to receive good news. Best wishes in the contest, my friend~Debbie

My wife did all of her rehab in our beauty of a retirement home nestled in the trees. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Thank you for sharing such a personal and touching story! The word cancer cause such fear in our hearts! Most times its not even the cancer that takes lives-its often the damaging effects of the treatments! My prayers are with you and your wife. xoxo

Indeed, what a gripping narrative of gleeful retirement, abruptly followed by doom and sadness.
Your writing is clear, orderly, realistic and suspenseful
An amazing surprise ending it was. After detailed stages, careful narrative of hopeful results, but sober acceptance of whatever the fate.
the joyous ending is a glorious celebration.

What a heart wrenching story. I am glad it turned out okay two years later.
The section with your inner dialogue was especially effective and well-done. I look forward to more of your writing.

My uncle was diagnosed with cancer last year. He's done great with the chemo and everything. I take him to his chemo every three weeks. It's funny, or not funny, that you mentioned how it's poison. We went in and his port was clogged the one day, so blood wouldn't come out for his labs. They put this stuff in it, they call it drain o, it's not drain o but it literally unclogs it just like drain o does for a sink. We laughed and said what's a little more poison. I guess you have to have a sense of humor about it. I'm so glad your wife made the decision she made and is doing great in being cancer free. It's a battle I hope to never fight.

Just when life could not get any better, we think of ways that it can. Then inters a horrible twist that makes us question our belief in the all mighty. In spite of the unwelcome crisis, we pick ourselves up and face that monster. Great story, JLR.

I am so very happy for you both, it's a nightmare just having that word said aloud. When the finger is pointed at you, or someone you love, then it becomes a demon. My daughter-in-law is going to have a double mastectomy in December, she has already had a hysterectomy last January. Hers began when she was 28, now at 35 she has been adviced to do this. As a family, we are all supportive. You have to be, and you must be positive in your attitude. Thankfully, your wife didn't listen to her doctor, she listened to her body, and that saved her life. This is a great story, JLR, because it gives others hope that there is life after Cancer. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

My prayers are being lifted to your daughter, her immediate family and you, her mother, who I know would rather be the one going through this maze instead of your child...I am very appreciative of your kind words and I
have come to learn that we must share, because there is always hope!

Thank you, JLR, prayers are always welcome. I pray that you and your wife have many more years of joy in your lives and perfect health.
