This was such a heart-wrenching story, and so beautifully written. "Their bed, now too big, became an ocean of space he couldn't navigate." What a powerful line! And great spin on the contest theme!

Very good. The feeling is explained quite fully. Sometimes, there is no easy answer. Some times we get mired in a life of sameness. We depend on things a certain way, so we quit striving for more. Sometimes one continues to grow and change while the other remains rooted in place. Good writing. Karen

Beautiful story that in a way captures my own story. When you go from two back to one you need to learn again to be just you. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the contest.

Well, it sounded like a very true story, it made me think of my ex-husband when I left him after being married for a year. The controlling abuse was too much for me to handle with two small children and one on the way. So I left. 27 years later he never got over it. He passed away Four years ago from heart failure.
I enjoyed your story.
Happy Writing and good luck in the contest.

Yes, this is definitely what I would describe as being lost. And I think this story is one many of the voters will relate and empathize with. You do a great job showcasing his feelings and hopelessness.

A solid entry.

Your depiction of this "lost" man is very moving and all too real. I think anyone long married who saw his/her spouse leave without a verbal reason would recognize what Henry is going through. How did THIS happen? he asks himself after rummaging through that box of Memories. You capture the SADNESS of his state so well. Rod

Wow.... although the instructions say a work of fiction for the contest, it sure seems there's a lot of it drawn from someone who's been there... didn't quite understand your author notes to know if it was 'based on a true story'... but WELL DONE! ;) Thanx for sharing and best of luck! :)
