Cute flash fiction entry, Beth. It sounds like a conversation you might have with a relative or friend in a nursing home. I worked in one while I was in college long ago and far away. There's some pretty funny characters, that's for sure.
Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you Rhonda. Yes I've written several of these based on phone calls with my cousin who is an assisted living near Atlanta. She was funnier when she lived next door to her daughter.

Lol, I can imagine!

Thank you Patricia. My cousin finds reason to gripe frequently but she is actually more content in the assisted living than she was living by her daughter. She really conplained about everything back then.

There's a truth in here. Our children do put us in 'old folk homes' thinking we'll make friends with our generation. I got a chuckle out of the speaker chasing the old man with a cane. But I thought the punch line would be that he wanted to have sex! I had one guy in his eighties invite me to his room for music and wine. I said 'no way.'

Thank you. This happened to my aunt many times and she had to chase him our more than once. He likely came to let her see him expose himself, but my daughter who is nurse says that is typical Alzheimer behavior. Thanks for the review and comments.

This is a creatively humorous dialogue only flash fiction story. The characters seem real and their conversation sounds authentic. Even though the language is succinct, we learn a lot about 97 year old Caroline. Great job. Best wishes in the contest.

Okay, this was comical. Can see this scene unfold. You captured the old lady spot on. The "flash" at the end certainly made the piece stand alone. Well done!

This one-hundred-fifty-word flash fiction story, Latest Phone Call from Caroline, has the proper word count and makes will chuckle. I hope that was your intention. Poor Caroline.
Still snickering.

Thank you Bill. Yes my intention was to make you chuckle, but I think it made a several people a little nervous. One even suggested they might move to a state where assisted suicide wasn't illegal.

Thank Wayne. I appreciate the review. This is only parr fiction. The old guy and the garbage part of the story came from my aunt in another nursing home. She was also in her ninties, and she had to chase him out numerous times.

This is a cute story. You can see the daughter was trying to do the best for her mom. Not all old people belong in homes for old people though. Sometimes, they miss having a mix of ages around them. I can remember my grandmother being upset with all the old people around her at Senior Citizens. It was someplace to go during the day, but only occasionally and she felt she had to take care of them, even though she was older than many of them.

LOL Thank you for sharing this flash fiction contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading. I can imagine situations similar to this happening. I knew a choir director who's husband had Altheimer's and attempted to use the choir loft as a bathroom during the service. Good luck with the contest.
