Thank you Roy. My cousin called a few minutes ago and she'd forgotten all about the other call. This time she told they want let her use the phone long because they believer she is a spy. I try to sympathize, but some of the calls are hilarious.

This was funny and sad at the same time. You're right - laughing is better than crying. Thank you so much for sharing this here, and best wishes to you.

Thank you Jess, It is funny and sad. My cousin called a few minutes ago and she had forgotten about the other call. This time she claimed after a few minutes of talking on the phone someone make is where she can't hear. The says she think they believe she is a spy and that is why the cut her off.

That's so funny! Your cousin is such a source for humor! I can't imagine the nurses having to deal with keys when even convincing the Alzheimer's patients to shower may be a big ordeal in the first place.
Best wishes in the contest!

This short story is really humorous. I can't imagine a nursing home actually losing the keys to the ladies showers. They probably had more than one set, but if not, they would call in a locksmith to open the doors. Very funny stuff. Best wishes in the contest.

Laughter is always better than crying -- unless those are tears of joy. The piece made me laugh and, should I ever succumb to Alzheimers, I hope my relatives will have a smile or two at my own antics. I would rather them be smiling than wringing their hands! Great post. ann

Priceless. Fine work in a flash. So, is she implying that they have to shower with the men. Wishful thinking, perhaps? As you say, humor lightens the sorrow.
lady's=>ladies' showers.

Thank you Elizabeth, I really appreciate the review. Maybe that was what she was so upset about. I figured it was because she thought the men would come her shower. At any rate, she hung up on me because I didn't act concerned enough. LOL

I guess that discovery would create come much-needed excitement in the nursing home so this makes a fun story, unless of course, you are 93 years old and together enough to know you don't want to be seen in your birthday suit. Good luck in the contest.

Actually my cousin didn't find it funny at all. I'm sure those who do her bath aren't going to allow that to happen. I assured her she was in no danger, but she thought her daughter and I should have done more about it. Thanks for the review and comments.

I know this is fiction because in the Alzheimer's unit, each patient has a room with its own bathroom including shower as well as toilet. Still I like the idea of a bored aide starting a rumor.

Actual it isn't total fiction. I did get the call and my cousin was completely upset. The already called her daughter who laughed. She wanted me to get the cops involved. She was sure she would die if a man saw her naked. She hung up on me when I told her there was nothing I could do.

Thanks, Beth, for clearing that up.

This one-hundred-word story, Just Keep Your Towel Handy, has the proper word count and puts a little spin on the mundane and joyless tone typically associated with this situation.

Thank you again for the review and comments. I'm sure someone was just having fun at these ladies expense to tell them that. Some probably thought that my be exciting, but not my cousin. She was upset.

I broke my shoulder in 2020 and had to be in a rehabilitation facility for several weeks. The facility also had long-term care patients. It was an excellent place that provided phenomenal care and the staff caring, polite and fairly prompt unless they were dealing with an emergency. They were often shorthanded and over-worked. One of them told me it was the humor that kept them sane. Your post reminded me of some of those remarkable people.

Thank you Mary, Laughter is good medicine. Unfortunately my cousin wasn't laughing, and I had to appear to sympathize with her anguish over the fear of being ambushed in shower by a peepint Tom.

I understand that your cousin was feeling anxiety, I guess I just responded with what your post brought to mind.
