A grain of salt isn't very filling, so I'll take everything with a shot fine bourbon whiskey. But don't tell my doctor whose told me I'm never to have another drink. Shows what he knows. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

We use the British English version 'pinch of salt ' and sometimes add a=our own extension. If we feel someone is exaggerating the profits or benefits ,we say 'take it with a pound (Or Kilo!to stress the improbability) of salt'.It is very interesting to study the evolution of languages..

You know, if you spill salt, you are supposed to toss a few grains (a pinch) over your left shoulder to ward off bad luck. That's always the kind of direction I took it. When you hear something foolish, just fling on away from you! ha

I've heard of that too--tossing salt--that's a superstition--I'm curious as to its origin.

Okay. Some people will NOT get this.
For one, the premise is about a simple phrase. And two, it's written Dead Serious.
It is really hard to explain it but I GET this. Meaning, I Truly enjoyed reading it. I LOVE this kind of trivia. (I once watched a documentary on the origins of ketchup)
But it's the WAY you wrote it. It's succinct and data driven, yet it has a master's stroke of pensmenship that weaves all of it together.
It's Enjoyable to read and in that it makes the reader Interested!
Again, it's hard to explain. But I Really liked it. And I may be reading WAY too much into it, haha but that's okay. You have a special way with words and I bet a lot of people will skim this for a quick buck or to drop a fluff five, and not Fully recognize it. I do. :)
Btw, Pliny the Elder is one of the people I cite as having referenced Jesus outside of the Bible. Cool stuff :)

Thanks--glad you see it that way because the system won't permit you to retract a six. Once a six, always a six. And you can up/down grade between 1-5, but not up to or down from 6. Glad you had fun with it!

I like to write what I like to read--humor fiction and nonfiction and personal stories--especially yours!
I'm not proud to admit, but I don't much care to read poetry--especially free verse--which I find arbitrarily chopped. As to prose--in general, I dislike fantasy, sci-fi, horror--of course, I am obliged to read what my fans write, regardless. What about you?

Oh I am Identical haha. And no I don't usually like reading poetry. I used to make my wife suffer through it when I went on my poetry spree for a few years lol.
I like satire, dry humor like David Sedaris.

Yes--satire and dry humor! Though I confess that I don't always get it. I'm hopelessly literal-minded and out of the loop as to topical issues and the social media culture.

I'm so surprised that both origins have something do with taking poison. In the first case take it as an antidote and in the second, take it to help swallow the poison.
