Hi Black Titanium, I checked your link, and I got an error message. It said I could refine my search, but it seemed there were about 500 choices. You can send the link to my email, which might work better:

You did a superb job in telling this story under word count restrictions. Flash fiction is challenging to write. Thank you for the background information. I think you should write the entire story in another post.
Like you, I was trapped in alone in an elevator, but I did not have my cellphone. Fortunately, I was trapped doing regular office hours (3:00 pm) and in a sixth storied building. I tried to remain calm, and the Fire Rescue "rescued me".
As for high rise buildings, since 9-11, I vowed to never to live or work in a high rise building.
Thank you for sharing. I know the experience was traumatic.
Happy holidays!

Thank you very much, Nan! Yes, the experience was upsetting at the time, especially the response of the temp agency and its client, the next day.
I also had to walk down the exit stairs from the 12th floor, during a NYC blackout (I think it was August, 2003), and then across the 59th Street Bridge (also known as the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge), post-9/11. But I wasn't alone then, and it was during the daytime. I also had a mini-flashight -- helpful in a dark stairwell -- but now most cellphones have them built-in.
I appreciate your kind and complimentary review. I wonder if I can still write this story in a new post, given FanStory's restrictions about reposting the same material.
Your experience in the elevator sounds really scary! I wouldn't be upset, being on a high floor, although I wouldn't be all that eager to, either. I had an interview for working at the Twin Towers (after 1993, and before 2001) and asked whether they now had an escape plan. They did not. The rejection letter came in the mail. What a gift! I'm on disability now, but if I were able to go back to work again, I would never want to work in the new WTC. Previously, I did temp work in both towers, during the mid to late '90s.
God bless you, my Poetic Friend! And Happy New Year. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Flash writing is very difficult -- at least, it is for me! You've got to have beginning, a middle and an ending leaving the reader with a complete picture of a short sport in one's life. You succeeded! Good job. ann

Well, I could imagine the dilemma you were in. I was also trapped in bad situations but not like yours. But, thanks to God who knows our situations and arrange to deliver us. Thanks for sharing and best of luck, Kit.

Mary Kay,
Which also means that you could very well have been working in one of THOSE towers in the next year or two. Wow. Things could have gone so differently. I'm glad you are safe - we might not ever have even gotten the opportunity to know you! Imagine that!
I'm glad you shared. Hugs-

As a matter of fact, Robyn, I had, at some point, after 1993 but before 2001, applied for a job in the World Trade Center, and was REJECTED, praise God! I kept the rejection letter, it's probably in storage somewhere, it's even on company letterhead, with the address. One of my questions to them had been whether they have an escape plan, if there should be another emergency. They did not. (Maybe there's another story in this.) One person died -- God rest her soul -- from that law firm, and it could have been me, or I could have died with her.
But God had another plan, and I am forever grateful. Thank you for your great review, the five stars and your very loving and insightful remarks. May God bless you and protect you.
Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Yes, I am so grateful. I was blown away, when I came across the rejection letters (they actually sent two of them) sometime later.

My jaw dropped as I read your harrowing experience. It's chilling and scary even to think about it, let alone experience it. By God's grace, you have survived a catastrophe. You have written it very well. Good luck in the contest!

Dear Seshadri, thank you very much for your excellent review, the five stars and your compassionate comments. Although I was frightened, I had to think clearly about what I should do to get out of that building, and especially after getting a lot of positive feedback here, I'm very sure that I did the right thing. There's probably some kind of a law that says there have to be phones available to dial emergency services, wherever people might encounter urgent problems on the job. I thank God for whoever had the foresight to put that in place! May God bless you, too, my friend, and keep you safe. - Mary Kay

Shame on whoever dropped the ball when it came to preparing you for the job they so negligently left you alone to perform. They should not have left you alone at night without at the very least checking up on you from time to time t see if everything was ok, and if you needed anything at all. I am well pleased that you found employment with a better company. Good for you.

Dear Nomi, thank you so much for your great review, the five stars and your kind remarks. I am touched by your compassion and understanding of my situation, and wish that my former employers had shared your perspective, but alas, the world at large does not aspire to godly and just values, yet God took good care of me, for which I give Him thanks and praise. May He bless you. - Mary Kay
