What are your thoughts while reading such books? Do you think "too bad for them" or "haha suckers, my life isn't that bad"? If it is the second one, I'm going to suggest a less time consuming way to achieve it: go to Walmart once a week. A ten minute shopping trip is better than reading helpless chapters in my opinion. Of course, you may spend too much money or end up with a shopping habit that you'll need to read about breaking. Lol

Thanks for the ATB pending--you are magic#26.
As to your question, the former. I'm grateful vs malicious.

A humorous perspective on a trend that does indeed seem to cover all aspects of life, the self-help guide.
The piece is witty in its composition.
Well done. Thanks for sharing.

The Humor Woman strikes again. This is so relatable; everyone wants to improve themselves. Everyone is looking for a quick fix. Your book titles are a riot. But you left out my obsession: diets. Do you have a book that will help me shed 50 pounds by next week? LOL
I must admit that I too am a self-help book junkie, but I only go as far as reading the back cover. I discovered long ago that when I bought one of these books, I would start off all gung-ho but by the third chapter, my interest and enthusiasm had withered. Especially when I had to actually follow the steps and exercises. Who had the time??

I particularly enjoyed your introduction: a parallel with AA - not that I know from experience. I enjoyed your self-help list and their paraphrases, particularly the one about painless child-birth! Each one humorous. And the fact that one is not alone if faced by any of these situations is not very helpful - why do they pay such writers to say what we all know and don't want to hear! Well done.

Haha, I skip all of those self help books, Liz. I enjoyed reading your info on them. I like the paraphrasing of the titles (the subtitles, I believe). They are all funny, and prove my point.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Wow, Liz, I was beginning to think that your life was far worse than you describe, as I read through your list of self-help books. None of them pertain to me; glad to know that they don't to you either. Thanks for the chuckle.

Emily:
I absolutely love your take on the numerous self-help titles you noted above. Perhaps you are reading all these books in order to have a plethora of advice for those who need the information but wouldn't be caught dead buying/reading these books. Of course, if they were caught dead, I suspect they wouldn't need the books anymore. Oh, well!
