Adew pearl taught me a lot. When I first came on this site I was a nieve writer and someone made a really bad comment. He basically told me I had no talent and my writing was crap. I nearly gave up and stopped writing. Then, I got a very constructive review from Adew. I wrote back and told her what the member had said. She wrote back, told me I was very talented if a bit raw and not to give in. You can't please everyone and, if a person doesn't like your material, they will give you a bad review. It has nothing to do with your writing. She stopped me quitting.
Dean taught me to have faith in my writing and use my own name for this novel. When I said they might not take me seriously as a woman writing very dark material, he said... Well, I wont say what he said lol. The gist of it was, it is there problem if they turned down a talented writer because of her gender.
The other member reviewed me a few times. I didn't even know they died. I will definitely look them up. Thank you for sharing and stay safe.

What a wonderful piece of information, G. I will definitely have to look when I am done typing this. Although I was indeed familiar with 'michaelcahill' & 'Dean Kuch', I was not familiar with 'adewpearl' but I have heard the name before. Your writing this was somewhat meant to be, it was the right time in the right place and I for one am very grateful, thank you.

Yeah, it's good to be reminded of these things and not just the game from time to time. G

This article, Fanning the Flame, is a public service message for all the reasons you have stated. Revisiting the children's poetry of adewpearl or the well-produced horror of Dean Kuch is time well spent.

Hi Gareth,
I followed the writings of adewpearl and Dean Kuch. Both were magnificent poets. Dean dealt in horror, while Brooke excelled in nature. So much talent! If the four you didn't mention, I know that Alvin T Ethington was the Haiku expert. He was quick to let you know if yours was a true haiku poem, or not. Both he and Brooke taught writing classes regularly in Fanstory.
Gungalo was a passionate poet, writing love poems regularly. I'm not into anything mushy, but she certainly had a lot of talent.
These writers all rose to the top, and I wish they were still with us. I miss them, especially Brooke and Deano.
Nicely penned, Gareth! I think, every once in a while, Fanstory should revive and promote a poem from these deceased, accomplished writers so present members could enjoy their talent from the Eternal Flame.
Cheers,
Kimbob

Yeah, I think that's a great idea. it costs nothing for the site to do this. I think I'll ask tom about an announcement pointing out the eternal authors. G

Thank you for sharing this information. I am new on here and still have a lot to learn about this site. So I am always interested in posts like yours that show how much more there is to do on FS.

I believe I have read Michael Cahill's work and of course Dean's, I didn't know adewpearl had left us. I was off the site for a while, sorry to hear that. I have left contact info, in case I just disappear one day, with Robyn so she can find out what happened. This is a very nice tribute to those who have gone on. I will have to go back and read some of their work.

Your style is so breezy and conversational that you make what could be a dull subject a great read. I don't post or review much anymore, but some names stand out and I can't pass their work by.

I still miss Adewpearl and will definately go to her site and re-read her poems. She was so talented in writing short poetry. Your point about those who are no longer with us is important. The eternal flame is an opportunity to read some great writing. Excellent essay with an important theme.

I was a huge fan of those people you mentioned. I have another one, who passed away this year, C_Lucas. He wrote westerns. I don't know if you read his work or not. Thank you for sharing.

I'm a FanStory newbie so this posting was wonderful to read. I'm just starting to get the sense of community and encouragement which you describe so nicely in the piece. I like your style.

There's a great community here and some wonderful reviewers, too. Don't get fooled, though, by the rankings especially of reviewers. The higher rank just means they do a lot of it. There are a handful of recognised reviewers who can really help if you can attract their attention!. Much appreciated. GMG
