His words are wise ... but sometimes difficult to accept. I think that writers need to put themselves in the mind of readers more frequently, and ask "If some-one else wrote this, would I enjoy reading it?" If not, it gets the chop. And I am sure we can all try for tight exciting writing rather than waffle, and for originality rather than overused expressions. Speaking once more to myself ....
Good reminder. Thank you.

Check out Karenina's stupendous review--I'm not referring to the stars but to her brilliant segue to the theme!

It?s brilliant.

Great words of editing wisdom! Sometimes, the sheer effort to birth the pages of narration or lines of poetry, makes it so hard to let go. But what we write has to engage the readers or the work can't fly. Thanks for sharing from your writing group!

She expressed it perfectly!

I wonder what happened to poor Len. That's good advice if he wasn't just caving under authority. That's why I like the individual critiques from readers at FS. I only wish they were private and not accessible to all of FanStory.

Oh Liz, you must be relentless with overused banal adjectives and be able to slash awkward clauses. I had to delete an hysterical decapitation scene...well, maybe I'll stick it back somewhere. Give pedestrian paragraphs a make over. Stop using passive voice. I will warn you. I have found adverbs become angry if they are cut. Look out for them.

Wow. Just read. I agree, she should post.

I do not know if Len's book was worth reading but his words are perfect for a writer. Sometimes criticism of one work will get your nose out of joint but the weight of Len's words should be remembered.
Thank you for this wisdom.
