I can't wait to retire...however I have many years before that happens. Enjoy retirement for me. Seriously, have a movie day, have a day where you just read a book, a day of being outside...And then send all that relaxation feeling my way. lol. Great job and congratulations on retirement.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my work. Retirement is a wonderful time of life to do all the things someone sets aside for another time....I set aside another full lifetime of very valuable things reading, playing and living life fully..one day at a time...

Hello mystery writer. It's a great feeling to pack all the stuff up for the last time and handing it over to the next guy. The tough part now is what's next? Writing is good.

-That is intriguing artwork.
-Your note is appreciated.
-You wrote a good story
about retiring, beginning
with all the things you had
to do at work to sign out!
-I like how you express
honest reactions to the whole process,
and what it means in your life.
-The ending is good, too.
-Good luck in the contest
and in your retirement!

I enjoyed reading this story - I liked how with each device which would no longer be used, a certain weight was lifted off the shoulders of the narrator, and consequently, the reader as well. Note that in the sixth sentence you should use "sad" instead of "sadness" as two items of the same type should always be combined (you combined an adjective (grateful) with a noun (sadness)). Also, "This major branch ended one's life journey" means that it ended one's life. I think what you were going for is "This major branch ended one of life's journeys" - this implicates that there are several journeys in life and work was just one of them, which then also nicely relates to the final sentence. Otherwise, great work.

Good luck in the contest. When retirement came for me I was not ready. I wanted to keep working, but age discrimination is real, they don't say that when you apply they just ignore your resume. So I review the work of others.

There isn't a word in anybodies self-dictionary that has retirement. Every day we get up and do something instead of seeping mix drinks in the comfort of our home or on vacation. We have to do something or go crazy, for doing nothing gets old and so do we. :) Enjoy life and be happy.

As you indicate, yes my weekdays are as full as ever with my workouts, Hospice volunteering, vacationing, reading and more than I ever thought I would;writing

That's a dramatic time and move. My husband retired a bit early - the company was under changes as it happened - so it was time to go. But the wrenching is there - something has ended.
Good story that shows that. Good luck with contest.

You've written an excellent story for the contest.
Most people when they retire ask themselves, "Why didn't I do this sooner?"
The key is to replace old activities with new ones, ones of your own choosing.
I'm sure of the word "sent" in line one, seems "shut" might work better.
Enjoy the journey.
Good luck in the contest

Yes, for this instance you are correct, however, it was in my case I did send off these items as I worked out off a home office.

Happy Hump day to you, even though that from the title of your story I don't really think it applies to you anymore. I envy you, retirement for me is about 2 decades away. You did a good job with the writing prompt, good luck.
