Wow! Apparently, you are a smaller version of Google I think. Can't imagine how you manage to collect so much data about a proverb or idiom, whatever you prefer to call it. In the past, you have done it in many cases. Thanks very much for some addition to the readers' GK. Poor cats! Never knew why we humans hold so much against them. Loved your post. Cheers!

I'd set out to assure people that it pertained to catfish. Had I known that the catfish reference came after the fact, I'd never had looked up the origin. I was blindsided by what I learned!

How amazing that you've dug up all these facts, I had no idea, but quite often it can be a diabolical reason for some of these types of proverbs that are steeped in "not so nice" origins, well done, blessings Roy
