Troy sounds like a special dog. I would have liked to have heard some of what you included in the author notes in the story, and less about your other dogs. It's unclear in the story what happened to Troy, almost as if he was too wild to keep. It's hard when you fall in love with a pet and t hen circumstances demand that you part.

This is a sweet memory of your beloved dog, Troy. It's well-written, interesting. I could feel the love, admiration you have for him. Glad that he found the love that he deserves with you and the neighbor. Labs can be a handful when they're a puppy, but they usually calm down when they're around two. Then they are the best dogs ever. Very loving, loyal and smart. I have 4. Three older,1 pup. Puppers keeps everyone on their toes, lol.

Sounds like he wanted to be free. He
was free when you found him. Maybe he escaped
and hurt his tale when he did. I hope he had a good
life. Dogs are hard to keep happy in my experience.

I've always loved cockers - got one on my first birthday - she lived till she was 13, died on Easter - we buried her out back. Since then, so many dogs have come and gone. But one black cocker we got was rather unruly. We finally gave him away to a farmer where he could roam. At Christmas we got a card from the dog (penned by the farmer) "I've been on ok dog, but I did bite the mailman once - and wandered into a neighbor's yard." Black Bart we called him. Guess the farmer kept him.
