Well, that's certainly some preoccupation in the bedroom area... lol
Glancing in the rear-view mirror, I saw Biggles cowering behind his master's legs and suddenly felt rather foolish, a middle-aged man in his second childhood. - Every time I see my brothers get into their mazda MX-5 sports cars I think the same thing! lol (they're 50 & 55).
Helen looked amused. "What's all that about? - need closing speech marks here.
Poor old Charles, maybe his loins will be burning for a second time that evening...

I've a brother-in-law with an MX-5 - 70 years old and careering downhill into his second childhood. Half his luck!

OMG! I have to go and read the next chapter now! What will happen to that lovely cottage? I know you'll be fine, I'm more worried about the cottage! lol. I hope things don't get too far out of hand. Excellent chapter, Tony. As you most probably realise, I'm back from Spain, and just in time, the heat is as awful there as it will soon be in your cottage! :)) Sandra xx

Good to see you safely returned home before you melted! I liked that cottage, too. It was an amalgamation of several that I have known. Poor old Charles. I needed to kick him out of his comfort zone before he sent my readers to sleep!

I think you must have been reading too much Jane Eyre with this conflagatory ending. This is not really a review just me playing catch-up now I'm back.

Good to see you back again, Jim. I hope you enjoyed your time away.

Hmm. Is there more or is the long list of characters fake? Intriguing. Are we going to find out if they survive the fire. Well done. Tongues of flame and creeping smoke are married epithets that revision will later change. Keep going!

Many thanks for your review, Clive. The characters listed have all appeared in previous chapters of the book. Some have turned out to be minor and should probably now be dropped from the list. The creeping smoke preceded the tongues of flame, but I think I get your point.
I appreciate your encouragement and observations.
Best wishes, Tony

I love this story and it aristocratic savoir faire dripping in this story... a very fun read indeed...

"There's a mohair rug behind the seat if you need it, or, if you like, I can pull over at the next junction and put the hood up.
However, Helen's radiant smile as she clutched my thigh dispelled any such maudlin thoughts.

I really liked this. It flowed well and I didnt see any mistakes. I like how I got a clear image in my head of what I believed was happening. I also like that even though its chapter 68 I can still follow whats going on. Overall very well done.

-A very good chapter, Tony.
-I like how you begin with Charles
thinking that Ian needs some alone
time, and that things with Helen there
might have added extra strain.
-It also gives Charles and Helen a chance
to be alone and enjoy themselves.
-Good description of the ride and scenery.
-It is a peaceful scene as they arrive at
Charles's cottage, and Helen seems to like it.
-The ending of the chapter is a bit ominous
since neither one was attentive to the
telltale signs of smoke, and what
was happening downstairs.
-Hopefully, things will be all right.

Hello Tony,
Another very good chapter with Charles and Helen departing from Bisto and heading to Moonraker's cottage. It provides a nice lull in the action with the drive through the countryside in the green sports car.
It appears there may some ominous consequences to their upstairs activity,
though a bit hard to believe Charles wouldn't go check on the tea kettle and the fire.
Overall, well done
Robert

A few things seem to have slipped Charles's mind after the bedroom door closed. I doubt if a cup of tea was high on his list of priorities. Maybe, if the kettle hadn't had an automatic cut-off, he'd have been driven downstairs by the whistling and gone to check the fire at the same time - in which case, Pam would have been able to read the next chapter.

I'm still not sure what Charles is doing with Helen, but I think it was a pretty good chapter. Nice descriptions of the ride in the car, especially with the veering almost into the oncoming truck and the wind racing through the convertible, put us right there in the back seat with them. You can see Helen in her sunglasses, enjoying the excitement of the ride, and Charles enjoying her company. The sex distracts them, and they don't notice the fire starting in the kitchen, the log rolling into the furniture and setting the house on fire. So you have built up some nice suspense and have a great set up for the next chapter. Have to see what happens next. I also liked the foreshadowing of the journey to Pakistan, in those jet plane trails, a little ominous. estory

Being new to FS, I have not seen other chapters but I found this one held my attention. During the dialogue within the car one thing leapt out at me. The following sentence caught my attention: "Its driver thrust the middle finger of his right hand up with bestial vigour and leant on his horn." It is reassuring to know the things humans do to express disdain and disapproval are UNIVERSAL. Good reading. -Robert-
