Well, so far, so goo, they've made it to Ahore, with a few anxious moments going through. They find that the flights to Chitral have been cancelled because of terrorist activities, Helen is advised to wear conservative clothing before venturing up there. Well done, blessings, Roy

There are some interesting cultural snapshots here that anyone travelling in that part of the world would find useful to take on board. First, it seems almost obligatory these days to applaud a pilot for doing what, if he couldn't he wouldn't be sat up there in either of the two front seats. Is it politeness or relief that prompts this action. It was never de rigeur back in the last millennium.

The taxi driver who doubles as a tour guide should be well known to anyone who has travelled even if it is only to a Mediterranean country. The different pace of the bargaining, the moment Helen switches to Urdu, was brilliantly done. I found in Sri Lanka this sort of thing happened when I was accompanied by a local.

This was an excellent chapter that placed us firmly in the Indian sub-continent.

Thanks, Jim. Glad to hear I managed to transmit something of the atmosphere. I suspect that Charles will be depending on Helen quite a bit for local knowledge and her language ability. Too much, perhaps. We shall see.

This is a delightful chapter Tony, I particularly loved the taxi driver and his non-stop 10 mile talking. You keep hinting that Charles is still unsure of Helen, but the attraction still keeps him there. Enjoyed this while having my Saturday night cuppa,
cheers,
valda

Thanks, Valda. I appreciate your comments. Glad you enjoyed the taxi driver. I suspect that Charles will need to depend on Helen quite a bit for her language skills. Perhaps too much. I hope not!
    Best wishes, Tony.

Thanks, Geoffrey. Another pair of eyes is always useful. Not sure hoe I let that 'We' through as a 'W' despite several readings. I guess we see what we thought we wrote!
'Fount' was intended. Apart from being a synonym for 'fountain', it has a separately defined meaning:
a source of a desirable quality or commodity.
"our courier was a fount of knowledge"

This is a fun chapter, Tony. Going through Customs is always such a relaxing experience but certain to raise anxiety levels.

It is so important to get the clothing right, because that can cause a few uncomfortable situations.

Much enjoyed the humour between the newlyweds. Why wasn't I invited to the wedding? lol

Great job with a most enjoyable novel.

Gloria

Thank you so much for these comments, Gloria, and for the sixth star. One of the things that keeps me going is the thought that I am entertaining a few people. All I need to do now is find an agent that can translate that into a few million people! LOL

I like how you do your research! I'm glad you mentioned the dress protocol and how important it is there. You even mention the salwar kameez (makes me think that there really is an Indo-European connection as 'kameez' reminds me of French chemise and Spanish camisa.)
I liked how you brought in Helen's cultural knowledge of bartering. I was just a little surprised that you used the '80 degrees' which is Fahrenheit which would be unusual for Europeans to use. Perhaps you are anticipating American readers? If so, you might want to change the 'boot' to 'trunk.' :))

Thanks, Helen. I'm all over the place with metric and imperial measurements. I've been using miles, in line with USA and UK, although they aren't used in Australia. Since I'm using British English spelling throughout, I agree that this should be in Celsius, and I have changed it.

I enjoyed tis chapter, Tony. Although it has serious implications of what is ahead, it seemed lighthearted and fun to read I liked the conversation in the cab with Rasheed. He seems friendly enough, but I'm not sure if he money hungry and would do anything for either inside. I was worried when the passports were taken into the office. The lines about looking like leftovers from yesterday's dinner were hilarious. Thanks for sharing. Jan
