You did a good job, Tony, with this chapter. I enjoyed reading the part about the boat trip/picnic. That palace would an amazing place to visit. You left your story at an interesting place. What might they find in the records? Good job & thanks for sharing. Jan

Thanks, Jan. I've never been inside the palace itself. The long queues have put me off! It does look pretty spectacular though, judging from the photographs I've seen.

My favorite line
"Not for me, thanks. As my dear grandfather used to say, 'I have had an ample sufficiency and any more would be a redundancy...we add to my already well appeased appetite....we are a wordy bunch.lol
Well,penned as usual

Thanks, Jenny. Glad you enjoyed my grandfather's favorite saying! His girth did not reflect his professed abstinence! LOL
Comment from Gloria ....
Another fine chapter, Tony. Now I am left wondering about the "accidental" collision of the two boats in the canal. These things are rarely just coincidence even though the truth may not show itself for some time.
Your visuals are stunning.
Looking forward to the next. :)

Thanks, Gloria. I may have to make something more of the collision! Not sure. Thanks for Fifi!

Cheers Tony;
> Fifi? Chuckle! I like this little bit of male and female fight for superiority and the satirical ridicule of her decision to give her car a name.
>I like how you build the characters by throwing in their small quirks and fallibilities, but also, on the other hand, their strengths and values.
>I like the small things, in your writings, like the eclairs being not editable even for the swans. And how Charles likes to poke fun at Helen's car, FiFi.
>I like how the church now is become upgraded from storage books to microfilms. These little things in the colorful touches to your story.
> Thanks for a very entertaining read, Tony, and take care and have a good one especially with all those that love you dearly.

Tony; I been reading up on the politics and the weather situation of Australia and I am totally amazed that political views don't look at global warming is threatening inadvertently was due to Trump's refusal to go to Paris during that summit.
I am very involved learning more.
Take care and have a good one, Tony.

Just the slightest soupcon of tension between these two enters upon the scene. I know exactly what you mean. My second wife christened her VW beetle 'Enoch'!
I wonder how they used to keep the food cool in the days of 'Dejeuner sur l'herbe'. The lady in Manet's painting seems to have found the answer.

I imagine that Enoch would be aghast at the current flood of immigration. There was, perhaps, a grain or two of good sense in his 'rivers of blood' speech. Your wife's little VW presumably migrated without bringing his extended family with him.

Good entertainment, Tony. I like your steady pace. Your narration is unhurried, taking the time to develop your story line without a great sense of urgency. It's a relaxing read. Makes me wish I had gone to Versailles while I was in Paris. I missed out on it. I'll have to see what pictures they have on line. Very enjoyable read.

Thanks, Adrienne. We didn't get there either, though I have been before - some years ago. We decided to go to Monet's gardens at Giverny instead. I gather the queues to get into the Palace at Versailles are horrific in July and August.

A great little story and I found it read well, the words flow so easily and I did enjoy the read. The brief encounter with the boat bumping them was somewhat unexpected. Thanks for sharing

A fairly languid episode, with Helen and Charles nearly finishin up in the river, and confronted by an angry boatman causing an angry response from Charles, but Helen pouring charm on the situation, after their picnic, they meet a priest who shows them around, could this have something to do with what they looking fo. Well done Tony,

To be truthful, up until now chapter 8 is the first and only chapter I have read from this book.
Yet, after doing so, I declare myself absolutely taken with it.
The story flowed nicely and contained both humorous undertones and mistery, to the point in which I am deathly curious about how the story began. (As a matter of fact, I plan to read the first 7 chapters as soon as I can after posting this.)
Helen appears to me as a wonderful and funny woman whom I'd love to meet in real life. I specially liked the manner in which she decides to name her car and silently "threatens" Charles when he mocks her decision. And the way in which he reacts and obeys her commands is also incredibly entertaining.
