Good morning, Barbara
Another excellent post in a long line of posts. The characters really moved the story forward. The historical aspect was spot on. Enjoyed.
Question regarding the concentration and extermination camps . . .where not nine million killed, six million being those who were Jewish?
One possible nit "There and at Dachau my skin crawl(ed)."
Take care and stay safe,
Ray

G'day Barbara.
Well, I am getting punctual at this reading caper lol.
Beautifully written with not a word out of place that I could spot. It is such a tragic tale and time in history and you portrayed the emotion in the telling of her story perfectly.
Great work and enjoy you holiday.
Cheers Fez

The Jews have my sympathy. What was done to them in the war was terrible. I have heard all about Auschwitz; it is a place that I could not bear to visit. Just hearing about the atrocities has given me sleepless nights.
My thoughts about this chapter:
1. I'm still waiting to hear why the painting is important--but I'm sure that is coming soon.
2. You wrote:
"Basically anybody the Nazis didn't like or understand," added Philip. "It probably included Jehovah's Witness, Roman Catholics, ...
Okay, the above part may require a little more research. I am not terribly knowledgeable but I have watched a few documentaries on TV regarding the war. *It is believed that Hitler was a Roman Catholic (I am sure in name only) but nonetheless; therefore, maybe 'Roman Catholics' should not be included in Phillip's list above.
Just my thoughts.

Researched showed they also hated Roman Catholic and the practicing ones were in camps. Hitler also had Jews in his ancestry. Thank you for the kind review. Shana's answer is in my next post. Not sure when I'm posting it, but will try on vacation.

Okay, thanks, Barbara. I'm glad you researched that aspect--it's not something they say in documentaries but they should. I heard that Hitler was part Jewish--I wonder if he knew. We are all descendants of Adam and Eve and all have Jewish blood.

I doubt Hitler cared.

Hi, Barb
= I can't imagine the horror the people went through, but having to talk about what one's family endured has to this day be most overwhelming.
= Well written chapter, my friend.
= Enjoy your vacation. Always wonderful to get away.

What a fabulous sixteenth birthday trip to give Shana!
A couple suggestions:
Jeff grinned is used twice somewhat close together.
Abraham's genealogy is in Genesis.
I've been to Auschwitz so I understand why her skin crawled when she talked about it. The images are still burned into my brain from my trip forty-four years ago.
Nice job on this section.

You did a great job with this chapter. I loved the video, I forgot how much I enjoyed that movie and the music that went with it. Have a great vacation and don't worry about posting, we will all be here when you get back.

I liked this chapter and learning about Shana's thoughts and reasoning. It's always hard to look back at how those poor people were mistreated and abused, and to imagine that any human being could inflict such torture on another. But in truth, similar things happen every day across our world of monsters. Have a wonderful vacation! :-)
