Those wonderful thoughts and feelings always come bubbling back, even many years later, after lying hidden underneath the day to day rubbish for so long. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

You mean, of course, the wonderful thoughts and feelings of "If ... you... see... Kay."(?) I caught hell from the DJ after he had aired it without thinking of how it sounds when spoken. He called me back and chewed me out plenty! That was the 50s for you, and I was only 15.

Yes, I was referring to the thoughts and feelings for Kay. LOL. As for the crabby DJ, chewing out a 15-year-old, at least you got to say your piece. It was sweet. And it was a shame the DJs heart wasn't as kind as yours. :-)

Cute flash. At fifteen you may feel some sense of patrotic duty. It is cool to do what you can to keep America safe. But that doesn't keep girls off your mind for teenage boy. Maybe those song requests for your best girl with touch her heart. You can look for enemy aircraft and dream at the same time.

Thank you, Beth. I always appreciate your take on my writing. You are always so kind and generous with your encouragement.

I guess your boyhood was full of adventures. Was that a game you wanted to see! And dedicate a song to your GF, Kay? Or was that a display of patriotism? Sorry. I am a bit confused as I am not able to get the context. Good luck in the contest!

No apology needed, Seshadri. Only two people seemed to understand the childish prank of a telephone line request. It was a 15 year-old's way to get the F-word on the air by spelling it out: "If... you... see... Kay ... tell her I love her." (Say it out loud.) The DJ chewed me out royally since he got all kinds of complaints from listeners. But some of my friends heard it, so it was all good!

Intersting intake on patriotism and democracy, I think nowdays we rarely so much dedication. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the contest.

Very interesting. If I could suggest. This line concerned me a bit, given it was the year 1954.
I phoned in my request: "If you see Kay ... tell her I love her."
I think you may want to add in the notes what kind of tower it was, and that it had a landline phone inside.

I see what you mean, Lance ... but for another handful of words. Oh, I just realized what you meant. In the Author's notes.

What a brave child you were. I'm impressed by your courage to do this glorious deed. Not sure. Is it about a baseball game or something else?
Well done.

Nothing really glorious about it. I was a kid. Thank you for reading, Lisa.

Hi Jay,
This intriguing flash fiction is written well and you made every one of your 101 words carry their weight. I'm not sure I understand the ending. I suppose it was a dedication that would alert Jay's girlfriend to the fact that he waited in the tower.
Great job and write on!
Good luck in the contest,
~Lana

Lana, did you read the dedication out loud, like I suggested in the Author notes? I was only 15.

You are sly! There was a commercial for Kay Jeweler that ended up on a record album that featured infamous Bloopers: You too can have diamonds if you see Kay. Cheers!

So far (8 reviews) yours is the only one who read the meaning in the dedication. Oh well, thank you for your close reading, Liz!

Sounds like you had a great imagination then, too! Um, I was stunned by the year - I wasn't even born then so I was thinking that you were going to tell us a Tee-ball story but you were a teen by then.
Great set up with the story, details and surprise ending. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you, Helen. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Contrary to what I private messaged to you earlier, I knocked this one out in less than an hour.
