You have Arnoux in the background, still growling at Charles, accusing him of theft of the painting, competing with Helen with that kiss on the hand. The tension there is well established and still taught. Charles seems a bit unprepared for the undertaking, shivering at the prospect, and the cold breeze seems a great foreshadowing of what's to come in the Hindu Kush. The snow leopard image is another nice bit of foreshadowing. What will she spring on Charles on their next adventure? Can they pull off the cornering of Zemar? Stay tuned for the next episode...estory

Hi Tony, another very well written chapter. They now have the last night before they are off to God knows what. I'm looking forward to that. And then there's Arnoux. I still can't help thinking that Helen is a wild card. We'll see. All best. Ulla:))

Thanks, Ulla. As always, I appreciate your comments. Helen is a bit of an enigma, isn't she? All the best, Tony

She most certainly is.:)

A very well-written chapter, it seems there is a new mission at hand but there is always time for fun and romance before the hard work begins. A rivery cruise is just the thing to set the mood for romance.

I like Parsons. He's not as naïve as first thought. He had everything in order and ready for Charles. The remark about his freckles was good. I hate to keep saying this, but I don't trust Helen.

Interesting chapter - but I'm puzzled - who and why did this Arnoux person show up? - and no one paid attention to him except the narrator? The transition or explanation is not there that I could see.
Other than that - a good chapter.

As always, I appreciate your comments and support, Gail. Thank you! Arnoux featured quite strongly in earlier chapters of the story and the references here hark back to them. Best wishes, Tony

but did the others in the room see him? or was he a ghost - cuz it didn't seem they paid any attention to him.

I am still not 100% positive that I trust Helen. She seems untrustworthy to me. I am worried about Charles. I have a feeling he's in way over his head. I sure hope he gets out of this whole thing with only a slightly bruised ego. I do love the story.

Looks like she's feeling a bit naughty again LOL. This is really well done and I especially like the fact that even though you are nearing the finish line - you maintain a slow and steady pace to get there without rushing. So much of what I have read here hits a point where the author get in a huge hurry to get to the end and in the process trashes the whole storyline. I guess they'll have to return the painting now - unless there is some miraculous twist ahead that is yet to be revealed. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

As always, I appreciate your comments and support, Monica. In particular, thank you for your comments about the winding up of the tale. The ending is such a critical part of any story and I'm approaching it with some trepidation. Best wishes, Tony

hi Tony,
Another great instalment.
it move effortlessly from sinister to bluster to romance with hardly a mark in the transition. very smooth.

I rather like the way these two, while pursuing a life of espionage in exotic parts of the world are still capable of enjoying the less exotic but equally enjoyable sits of Paris like any othe Ryanair passenger.

Ryanair. That brings back memories. I had a couple of ex-RAF mates who ended up flying for them, for their sins.
