Excellent! I taught six grade for my last few years in the public school. Six grade girls have no qualms about telling me when I need to dye my roots or if an outfit made me look old or fat OR if I was looking good, they also pointed that out. (It was how I discarded clothing and knew when to color my hair!) This was wonderful. Out of the mouths of babes! :)

Sooo very right, Wendy! A six-year-old student once asked, "Shelley, do you do dye your hair?" When I told her I did, her next question was, "Why don't you dye that gray strip down the middle?" I told her next time, I'd do that, and she seemed happy that she'd helped me out.

Anyway, thank you for such a fun review. xo

Oh, Rachelle, you have such a special talent for relating to children - you know just what words to say.

Hey, girl, don't be insulted that your leather outfit was called plastic. Kids do have a limited vocabulary, haha.

Have you ever read any books by Nora Ephron? Your postings remind me of her humorous writing style. Hugs, Lou

As always, my FSBFF, your work is charming and endearing. You know how to cull only the parts of the story most salient to making your point. In so doing, you demonstrate what an amazing way you have with children, and highlight your wonderful, self-deprecating sense of humor. My only issue is that you end the second story a bit abruptly. The first story had a concluding sentence. I think the second story would benefit from some sort of "punchline." After you say, "Let's get down to work here already," why not add, i.e., "She fllashed me her most self-satisfied expression, as if to say, 'My work here is done.' "

Children don't bite their tongues.
When my daughter was little, she once saw a lady with long black hair in the street and said, 'Look,Mummy, a witch.' Fortunately, she said it in English.
I have really enjoyed reading this.
Thanks so much for sharing.

I love their candor...though sometimes I like it more than others.
That's hilarious about your daughter. My friend was in the grocery story once behind a large woman in a purple sweat suit, and her daughter shouted, "LOOK MOMMY! IT'S BARNEY!!" My friend gasped and said, "Oh! I think we forgot something in the frozen food section!" and retreated as quickly as humanly possible.

This line from Fiddler on the Roof just popped into my head: "Children, children! They are the joy in your old age."

Thanks for the fun review, Maria. xo

Tres delightful. Children don't back down. They say what they thing. I smiled at the little girl's determination that you were a witch, although she didn't seem to mind if you were. How funny that the five-year old kept going on and on about what you wore that she considered costumes. What wonderful recollections. You seemed to enjoy the girls' impressions of what you were wearing. A joy to read. judi

Children definitely do NOT back down. You are SO right about that, Judi!! And that's why she had to give her logical reasons: "see how she's got that wild, messy hair and that long, pointy nose?" She had no choice; she was, after all, being doubted. Who could blame her?

And I do love the girls' reactions to my clothes. They just slay me. I've been told (and not just once, either...) "Your clothes are my favorite part of our lesson." Not exactly what I hope to hear, as a music teacher, but if it keeps them coming back, I figure eventually the music will capture them.

Thank you for this delightful review, Judi. xo

You're welcome. When I was in elementary school, all the girls paid a lot of attention to what the teachers wore, including noting their hemlines and if they were keeping up with the latest styles. judi

I was noticing the dresses my nephew's little girl, a recent kindergarten grad, Very stylish. She wore white for her graduation. I think she has a lot to say about what she wears. judi

Children are delightful tiny adults, they observe and allow their mouths to open a and come out with their immediate impressions. The saying: out of the mouths of babe.... is so true and us giant adults have to take it with a smile, (mostly) LOL. I can understand that poor mother, I think I would have cringed, too. Did you ever wear your witches hat again???? LOL. I love these priceless stories, I hope you put them all in a book. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Hahaha - "take it with a smile (mostly)" So true, Sandra!

Yes, I do still wear my witch's hat - just not during the month of October or early November!

And actually, these stories are all from the book I wrote, Lessons in the Key of Life, which I just had edited by the mega-talented Rama Devi. We'll see where it takes me!!

Thanks for another always-wonderful review. xo

Hahahaha... yes. I can see how she observed you so accurately. Do you promise not to put a spell on me, witchy poo pretty please??
Hahahaha... so animals come plastic wrapped these days do they?? Only in America.
Your stories are delightfully served up to us readers, pleased that it isn't us in the firing line of these honest observations from 5-yr-olds.

Thanks for the Sunday morning smile. xo

This was very funny and reminded me of the quotation, "from the mouths of babes." Children have no filter and that's the beautiful in what they say. I can see why you are currently ranked #10 as a top author. Very nicely written.

Oh, you sweet talkin' reviewer, you, Sandra!!

Their candor is my favorite thing about children. You ALWAYS know where you stand with them. They pull NO punches. Grown-ups will give you lip service, but children will be honest. We can trust them.

Thanks for you delightful review. xo

You can always rely on children to bring down to earth reality to a situation that adults gloss over and ignore the elephant in the room! He he he, your write is fun and I enjoyed it Rachelle, I bet you never wore that black hat again! He he he, love Dolly x
