Hahaha! You go girl. Sometimes you fight back and WIN. I hadn't thought of these types of incidents as hazing. If I had, I would have realized I had been hazed many times. Children can be cruel and adults can be even more cruel. However, women are the worst. I enjoyed this well written and informative piece, and admire your willingness to share some of your life's experiences.

I haven't read your posts in a while. I'm sorry I've missed them. I enjoyed reading this. Children and adults can be so cruel when we don't look, or act exactly like them. Thank you for sharing this with us. It's a great read.

OMG Rachelle, I'd go with the tiniest bikini, what a load of nasty women! I'd not heard of the word, hazing, before, and looked it up. Similar to bullying in a way. As for that man, YUK! We all know it happens with school children, and that's bad enough, but with grown ups? That's the pits!
You must let us know how it went. LOL, I can just see you at the front, big smile on your face, and doing some water stretching. I'm sure their costumes will gradually change. (Well those who are not to flabby!!) Love this, you always manage to make an ugly situation comical. A virtual six, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Hi Rachelle :) I've missed the comfortableness of your writing style. Engaging, funny and smooth (no nasty grammar obstacles obscuring content,) your post was a pleasure to read.
What a revolting man! Gross but funny :D
I have to ask, how long did you keep up the aqua fit classes and did you manage to find your way through the haze?
Looking forward to your next posting, Debra x

I ended up--this won't surprise you!!--teaching some of those classes, so the women softened to my love for leopard couture and accepted me into their group. After COVID, I just went back to participating rather than teaching it, but when there's a newcomer, I always say, when she's trying to find a spot in the water, "Come over here!!" Also good news, after COVID, I never saw Mr. Happy Trunks again.

I have been waiting and waiting for your next entry to come out, and I was not disappointed! It was WELL worth the wait! I love that at the end of your tale, you call them Loch Ness Monsters! HA! So apt for a swim class of Harpies! I just love your style of easy and wonderful storytelling. Your imagery and figurative language going hand in hand with the setting and events you describe. I just love this Fly on the Wall work!

Michaela, what would I do without your sunny, encouraging reviews! Thank you for always making me feel so good. You know this is exactly how I feel about your writing, too, I hope. xoxo

You have an amusing way of dealing with hazing, although I can only think of one reason the other swim exercisers slighted you, you were a lot better looking. Teenagers are just plain nasty to each other at times. I was a crippled kid in the fifties and even adults thought it was acceptable to make fun of me. I made me a lot stronger, so I figure it was no big deal.

We call that "trade-offs." Still, I'm sorry you had to endure such BS. xo

You did a great job, Rachelle, sharing your story about hazing.
The incidents you used to illustrate were unbelievable to think
they started at such a young age and continued as an adult.
Over time, you developed a better way to stand up for yourself.
Your words were well thought out and presented. I enjoyed
reading it to find out what happened at the end.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Love your spunk and attitude! I can't believe that your pool classmates were that horrid to you! I guess they were quite threatened by your good looks and style!
I never did that sorority thing and hope you survived that okay. My first college was definitely anti-college cliques - we were all misfits and eccentrics.

Mid-way through the second year, I resigned. I just wasn't fitting into that clique world, either!

Wow! From childhood to adulthood it gets worse. Nicely written with a touch of horror and humor. You go girl. Arrive early in that nice bathing suite, lol. Sea monsters and Jurassic Park beasts beware.

Lol, you tell them! I'm glad to say I've never been aware of organised, conscious hazing (ie like the college example) but I certainly had plenty of those social bullying moments in my youth. I like that you sprinkled your scorn and pluck with humour :-)
