This is interesting and something else I'd not heard before. I loved the video you shared because they is some unusual balancing. I don't see how he could do that move without gravity overturning him.

Thanks so much for your review and comments. Some of those skating moves look impossible to me. They must have been something to watch. judi

Judi,

This is great. I love learning about the histories of idioms and had no idea about this one. I've often thought it would be wonderful to solicit regional idioms and put them in a book. I particularly like to listen to Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana. Alas, I've never had the discipline to write things down to begin my collection. Keep 'em coming.

Sue

Thanks so much for your review and comments. My mother was always coming up with these sayings. I tried to look them up but couldn't find anything, so she must have thought of them herself. judi

I've seen them in movies. They were fantastic! I didn't realize Frick had died so recently. They brought so much joy and wonder with their wonderful skating.

Thanks so much for your review and comments. Frick did live to be pretty old. They were great skaters but looked like they were having fun. judi

Or Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, the Two Ronnies, and a few order English comedy couplings. But yes, I know what you mean, I hadn't actually heard of Frick and Frack, Torvil and Dean were a British gold medal ice duo, beautifully written, Judy, blessings Roy

Thanks so much for your review and comments. I'm so old I may have actually seen them skate. I loved to go to the ice shows when I was a kid. Frick continued skating solo for many years after Frack died, so it's possible I saw him. Torvil and Dean were the greats, had a great influence on ice dancing. judi

That is a brilliant one, I've never heard of this one and now I've read your explanation of the names, I know a couple this would suit down to the ground!! I love it. Well done, Judi. You came up with a corker! Hmm, I think that's another idiom!!! LOL> Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Thanks for your review and comments. So glad you liked it. I'm going to have to look up "corker" after I finish this and see where it came from. judi

Lol, it means you came up with something great! To call a person a 'corker' means someone amazing, stunning. It's a compliment. xxx

I've heard this idiom before, judi, but I never knew where it came from. I wasn't even born when they first skated, but I asked my husband (ten years my senior) and he remembers them. This book is a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for sharing this story.

Thanks so much for your review and comments. It was a clever idea to put together this book. I'm so old I may have actually seen them skate. I could have seen Frick, because he skated solo for many years after Frack stopped performing. judi

Thanks for your review and comments, Mike. I think I may have seen Frick skate. He continued for years after Frack retired and I went to many of the Ice Follies shows. judi

Thank you for sharing the history behind this common term. It's interesting how it came to be. It is used often in today's world. I enjoyed reading. I'm having so much fun with this Multi-Author Book.

Interesting. I never knew where that phrase came from. I never guessed that they were names from real people or performers. They must have been immensely popular to have their names become idioms and live on without them.

Well done.

Thanks for your review and comments. They were quite popular, and were even in some movies. It's strange how these associations are made. judi
