So sweet! I wish I could remember particular songs--I have the Buffalo Springfield records before NY went solo--the rest are muddled in my mind---now you've got me motivated to go concert-hopping on youtube! Thanks!

I'd forgotten how very beautiful that song is. Actually, I had heard the Carpenters' rendition more recently than Sedaka's. I LOVE all of these artists! You have done a fine job of reminding us about this masterpiece.

Wow, beautiful voice, so moving. A beautiful listen, and remembering way back ... A lovely choice, and great information background about Neil Sedaka. "Our" music was very poetic! I think I was more familiar with the Carpenters' version. Both are fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

God bless you!!

Thanks for this twofer! I loved Karen Carpenter's soothing alto voice. I did not know that Neil Sedaka was such musical prodigy! Thanks for educating me about popular music!
Comment about the idiom spelling. You might have wanted the "hay"
so... what the hay? (hey)

Thank you for the lovely review and generous stars. "What the hay" may be a southern thing, I'm not entirely sure. It's an euphemistic substitution for "what the hell." Sending you my very best as always,
Sal XOs...

Oh, I guess the "hey" is the Northern spelling. Lol.

This is so fantastic and brings back so many memories. Thanks for sharing your love of all the Neils. I am so partial to Neil Diamond...never missed a concert when he was in town.
I remember Karen Carpenter so well and, like everyone else, was so sad when she died. She was so fantastic.
Thanks for the memories.
My best,
Marie

Hi Sally,
I was wondering when you were going to continue your favorite songs. Neil Sedaka is such a great choice, so much talent, a beautiful voice that can't be duplicated. However, I have never heard the song you chose, "Solitaire", by neither Neil or the Carpenters. I would have selected "Laughter in the Rain", released in the USA in the fall of 1974. It reached #1 on the Top 100 chart on February 1st, 1975, the same year Judy and I were married (September 13th). Here it is,

I hope you'll continue your list. I like to stroll through the best music that ever was... the 60's and 70's. Music of today sucks!
Hugs,
Kimbob

If you're trying to make me feel old, it's working. But it's also taking me back to some fun times when music played a huge part of everyday life for me and many. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Sal.
Neil Sedaka is a good one. He wrote a lot of music for other people. My favorite song of his his is "Laughter In The Rain." whenever I hear his name that's the song that popped right into my mind.
You did a good job of summarizing his career end the song choice is definitely a dandy. No autotune with him, just a great voice and good music.
