This is a clever write with a very cute picture of Fergus. I like that your love of your dog is well depicted in your poem. All the best to you in the upcoming contest.

Our pets can be the greatest gift in life. I love how you pay homage to this guy with such humor and spirit. He looks like quite a character! Love the photo and expression!

Poor Fergus. I think he looks quite lovely! Your epitaph is well written, and humorous, and the photo is beautiful! I send you best wishes for the epitaph contest.

Dear Mystery Writer,

This was unexpected! I have not read an epitaph in this contest for an animal. That sets your entry apart and in a different creative corner. Nice!

I liked that you offered some rhyming here - but the following line sounded a bit 'off' to my ear because there was no end rhyme to match it.

Perhaps consider:

He had flapping ears that flipped around
--> He had flapping ears that flipped (and turned)
--> for a near rhyme/ slant-rhyme

Thanks and good luck!

Oh, man, poor Ferguson died but will always be remembered"|e had flapping ears that flipped around
whenever he had the gumption to run,
usually when he heard a repeat of a gun
Fergus was my boy. Man, we had fun!|. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest and with your writings.

What a funny face! And yet the poem makes us appreciate this humorous-looking canine and his loyalty was deep and apparently, he used his snout and ears to help his human. Best wishes in the contest!

Witty bit of whimsy in fine form--bonus rhymes!--clever wordplay--alliteration--mangy/mutt--flapping/flipping. The pic is priceless--I should have used it for my piece that referred to a pug. This may be a winner.

Poor little pup! We have a funny looking dog, part lab and part basset hound. Everyone makes fun of his little ducky legs, but we adore him. Cute entry for the contest. Hugs. And good luck!

Aww, it's sad when we lose a pet, especially one that meant so much. This is a lovely contest entry, and that photo! LOL, that poor dog. But he's so cute. Well done, this is a lovely contest entry. Good luck! :)) Sandra xx

Isn't it just wonderful what our precious canines offer us humans - even one that is 'As mangy a mutt that ever walked the earth'- and a super pic to illustrate
