Mozama seems just like I would have expected. Nice touch about how she reminded Charles of Helen.

I wondered about the dog. My Muslim friends seem very anti-dog. I'm sure that there are Afghan and Pakistani people who have dogs but dogs seem to be considered unclean in their religion.

Not sure why these words were highlighted white:
"eerie, disorientating, and fraught with danger."

"Kayla's two nieces offered" (nieces? I thought they were her cousins, the daughter of Mozama.

Ha! Ha! Brain failure. No one else noticed the niece/cousin faux pas! I shall have to award you a thumb for that. LOL

Thanks for letting me know you had posted this chapter. I love your descriptions, not just of the people and surroundings. You manage to bring the reader in to the heart of the story.

-This is a good chapter in several different ways, Tony.
-Your descriptive detail adds to the story very
well and gives a sense of surroundings
and character's feelings and thoughts.
-There are some bumpy rides, the meeting of
Helen and Kayla's aunt, and the bit of
time our trio spent there.
-A few things create suspense as to
the whole situation with Helen.
-Most telling is when Charles figures the aunt is
lying when Kayla translates and says she
doesn't know anything about the Lion.
-Also telling is Charles's thoughts about
keeping things from Ash: "Her feelings for her
sister would have to outweigh any other consideration."
-I think Kayla is a live wire, and you never
know when it will suddenly spark.
-Of course, the two million dollar ransom doesn't help, either.
-I am glad you are the one figuring all of this out!
-I hope things are settling down regarding
the wildfire situation. Our thoughts are with
everyone impacted by them.

Thanks for these detailed comments, Pam, and for the sixth star. All is well here re bushfires, except for smoke drifting across from the Kangaroo Island fires. We just batten down and stay inside on those days. The fires are still burning fiercely there and have jumped containment lines in a couple of places this afternoon, putting more towns at risk. It'll be weeks before all the fires are extinguished. A third of the island has been razed - around 400,000 acres, including 56 homes. The island's koala population has been almost completely wiped out.

I think this is a very well told story/chapter in what appears to be an interesting book.
I will be looking back at some of the previous chapters.
The story is clear and well told and the characters well painted.

Well, at least they're getting a little closer, knows who Hellen is with. I do wonder why she lied about knowing where the lion is, hmm. Your story is very well-written, interesting. Your great description makes us feel like we're there. Great job as always.

What a great description of Auntie Mozama's house. The 'rickety veranda' ... 'a grove of pear trees', 'gnarled limbs' and the 'ancient mulberry cast shade'. Well done!

As usual, I enjoyed this installment!

A very well-written chapter in the story. The aim to find Helen become a little more complicated. It will not be easy to find her when she seemed to go willingly with trouble makers.

This is a great, descriptive chapter, Tony. It is a nice break, for the most part, form the violence of earlier chapters. However, I know this part of the world revolves round violence and claims it in the name of religion. I like the description of the aunt and cousins. Your words were descriptive to each section--the people, the trip on the mountain road, the food/drink. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

Thank you, Jan. I appreciate your kind words. Unfortunately, extremists in many places distort religion for their own murderous ends. The majority of people in Pakistan are peace-loving and friendly in my experience.

I liked this chapter. the vivid descriptions of the bumpy journey up the valley, with the sparkling pristine river and the mountain farms, the aunt's house and the welcome they receive was very colorful and warm. We really do feel we are in a time warp, a protected space. But the clouds come in. at the end, we learn of Helen's fate and can imagine the difficulties in rescueing her. Also the French airstrike is looming. So trouble is brewing. The next couple of chapters should be good. I liked the descriptions of the aunt and her emotional conversation. estory
