Great funny story. I once knew an elderly gentleman that always said "I hear ya" whenever you said something to him. Oh, the day is hot. "I hear ya". My husband won't pick up his clothes, "I hear ya," I never heard him ever say anything else. So, I relate well to your story.

Thank you. I know personally that hearing he same reply over and over again, can pretty much drive you to the point of madness. At some time, you might explode with uncontrolled anger.

True, but consider how long Arthur had suffered through Billy's oft repeated refrain. Arthur had no doubt been waiting for the opportunity to shut his friend's mouth for a while at least.

I saw that coming! I find constant repetitive statements annoying. It is as if they do not listen to you at all and just blabber out something to make you think they are paying attention. This is very well-written and amusing.

Ha ha, nice... But horrible at the same time friend. For a brother to do that, for the girlfriend to do that. It is wrong on so many different levels. Yet we know it goes on and happens way too often unfortunately.

True. It is what it is. Empathy requires that we either respond sympathetically to our brother's pain or just remain silent.

No, he had it coming. Saying the same old catchphrase over and over again, becomes very annoying over time. If you can't come up with something new, do not say anything at all.
