Homeward Bound by Simon and Garfunkel
Sally's Jukebox Hits #40
by Sally Law
Welcome to my all-time favorite count down from 50 to 1!
I'm so delighted to have you with me in the month of August.
Home is the theme today. Yep, I'm a homebody! I have two songs about home featured: one from long past; and a bonus favorite from more recent years.
At the #40 position is "Homeward Bound" by folk rock duo Simon and Garfunkel. Their sweet sound is distinct and there's no one like them. They've stayed with us for decades, gracing the airwaves and wooing the world's stage. Take the time to listen to this song... really listen.
My favorite:
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me....
Sounds just like my home. Home, to me, is wherever my husband is.
The second is "Home" by Daughtry. At the 2007 American Music Awards, Daughtry won Favorite Album, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Breakthrough Artist after performing this song. The traveling singer and his band have quite the following, yet longs to be home when he's had enough of the tour.
My favorite:
I going to the place where love
And feeling good doesn't cost a thing....
Dedicated to home sweet home today for the August twofer. If you are traveling, I hope you make it back home safely.
{Homeward Bound by Paul Simon}
I'm sittin' in the railway station
Got a ticket to my destination
On a tour of one-night stands
My suitcase and guitar in hand
And every stop is neatly planned
For a poet and a one-man band
Homeward bound
I wish I was
Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me
Every day's an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines
And each town looks the same to me
The movies and the factories
And every stranger's face I see
Reminds me that I long to be
Homeward bound
I wish I was
Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me
Tonight I'll sing my songs again
I'll play the game and pretend
But all my words come back to me
In shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony
I need someone to comfort me
Homeward bound
I wish I was
Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me
Silently for me

I'm staring out into the night, trying to hide the pain
I'm going to the place where love
And feeling good don't ever cost a thing
And the pain you feel's a different kind of pain
Well, I'm going home, back to the place where I belong
And where your love has always been enough for me
I'm not running from, no, I think you got me all wrong
I don't regret this life I chose for me
But these places and these faces are getting old
So I'm going home, well I'm going home
The miles are getting longer, it seems, the closer I get to you
I've not always been the best man or friend for you
But your love it makes true and I don't know why
You always seem to give me another try
So I'm going home, back to the place where I belong
And where your love has always been enough for me
I'm not running from, no, I think you got me all wrong
I don't regret this life I chose for me
But these places and these faces are getting old
Be careful what you wish for 'cause you just might get it all
You just might get it all and then some you don't want
Be careful what you wish for 'cause you just might get it all
You just might get it all, yeah
Oh, well I'm going home, back to the place where I belong
And where your love has always been enough for me
I'm not running from, no, I think you got me all wrong
I don't regret this life I chose for me
But these places and these faces are getting old
I said these places and these faces are getting old
So I'm going home, I'm going home
