Dear God, how do I do this?
Our Last Goodbye
by Begin Again
I kept my promise. You’re home where you wanted to be.
Your strong hands are withered and cool to the touch. Your lips are chapped and dry. I plead for your devilish blue eyes to open, knowing they won’t. I lay my head on your chest. Each beat of your heart screams, “Remember me.” My tears drench your shirt.
I know you must leave. Yet, I beg you to stay.
Your lips move. I pretend and answer, “I love you, too.”
My heart shatters as I say, “Honey, you can go.”
I feel your last breath as I whisper, “Goodbye.”

The picture I used was taken in the early summer as we sat in the sunshine on our deck. It was a happy day. Little did I know that by summer's end, we'd say our last goodbye. Writing these 100 words ripped me apart as I lived those last moments once again. He's always with me, but I so miss his laughter and touch. Thank you for reading my story.
